Tori Amos; Flavor. New Video.

As part of her new Album 'Gold Dust', a selection of songs from her career have been re-created using an Orchestra. The single for the album is Flavor (taken originally from her 2009 Album Abnormally attracted to sin).

The song sounds so lush with an orchestra, and the video is one of Toris better recent efforts, (minus the hideous eye make-up).

(Can't figure out how to embed the video, apologies).

I don't really like the video tbh, but I like this version of the song. It sounds great I prefer the original, but the song surprisingly works well with an orchestra

I only heard about this album today and I have to say I didn't like the sound of it, but actually I think this version of 'Flavor' is great. It's one of the only songs on 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin' that I really like and this certainly stands up to the original.

I'm still unsure about the album - do songs like 'Winter', 'Jackie's Strength', 'Cloud on My Tongue' and 'Marianne' really need improving or reinventing? And is she really capable of improving upon them at this stage in her career? 'Night of Hunters' is great, but her best years are definitely behind her, and I'm not sure that her old songs are going to benefit from the addition of an orchestra. I have been pleasantly surprised by 'Flavor' though so it'll be interesting to see what the whole album is like.

I thought that too upon hearing about the album, but I figure she's at a stage in her career where she can reflect on the music she's made and put 'versions' out there that conceptually she'd be interested in... I guess it's like just like saying "Right, I've made this song.... I love it in it's original form, but how can I tie it together with some maybe other songs from my catalogue in a new and interesting way"... I'm still unsure about Programmable Soda being on there (even though I do really like that song haha).

I love the video. I think the concept is really cool and interesting. People may complain about the makeup or the fashion, but her slightly outrageous and avant garde looks have always been a part of her appeal. I'm not too much a fan of this version of the song though. And as someone else said, I don't find the idea of her adding a orchestra to her old songs that appealing. I guess I'm too emotionally attached to the original versions.

Well I love it, in this form and its original. I like the vocals and the darker edgier accents used in the orchestration. Tori never implied she was improving songs, she's just revisiting them with an orchestral setting. I can't wait to spend winter with this album.

Maybe not, but she's got to think the new versions can at least stand up to the quality of the originals, otherwise why would she rerecord them? It wouldn't make any sense for her to release reinventions of songs that she feels are inferior to the first recordings.

It would be a real shame if she has recorded new versions of 'Winter' and 'Marianne' and they are nowhere near as powerful as the originals, and I think that's why a lot of fans are apprehensive. Like you though, I really like the new version of 'Flavor' so I'm hoping that the rest of the album works just as well!

I think that's something I was trying to say in my previous post, I don't think she's doing it necessarily to 'better' the songs - jus to experiment in a different way. As I said, she's at a point in her career where she can do that and it's maybe more of a personal project for her, rather than a 'I need to put out a really strong album of new material'... I guess it's just kinda like releasing a remix album, but with Tori guiding the 'remixes' rather than letting other people do it.

I'm very interested to see how it comes together as a body of work though.

I think it's a wonderful idea, and this video is excellent in my eyes.

She's fulfilling a contract, I know that. If there as complimentary as Flavor, I'm happy.
