WP7.5 is a good OS, it just came too late in a shape it is. WP8 should be on the same level with Android and iOS, will use the same HW. We'll see if it catch on or the mobile market is now divided for good.
Yeah, as for people complaining about W8 new look, I did wonder how many OAPs posted at DS computer forum I am not the youngest either, but changes don't make me mad. As a programmer I have to adapt to new technologies and environments constantly if I want to be competitive. Which is nice too, no time to get bored with the same old same old.

You mean the same way that the hardware of pre-WP7 handsets was supposed to be incapable of running WP7?
Yet the HD2 has functional WP7.5 ROMs available for it... It is entirely about MS shafting people and what's worse is it's the second time in quick succession they've done it. Why anyone would want to buy into WP8 given how MS have treated their customers, twice, is beyond me. I've got several pda's that are just paperweights now thanks to MS. It's a shame because overall it was nice to have an extension of my PC on the road with me in a pocket sized device. |

WP7 gas been a flop and has more of a feature phone feel rather than smartphone feel. Still if you like the Metro interface then simply install Launcher 7 on your Android phone and you have the best of both worlds.
WP8 may pick up customers when BlackBerry go bust. |

Have you seen the amount of phones Nokia have shifted in the US with WP7? This is an OS on the up.
First quarter of this year Android and Apple had 90% of the (smartphone) US market which left 10% for the rest to scramble over. If Nokia sales are so good why was one of Nokia's shareholders suing them for such poor sales performance of the WP7 phone? At best they will get third place behind the big two, a lot will depend on getting the price right in the coming months. |

And there was me thinking that MS made the OS not manufacture the hardware. Doh!
That means the decision that existing handsets aren't going to be updated was theirs. Quote:

During that time, only once did it increase - a mighty 0.1% between March and April of this year. Source: Comscore - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 It is absolutely not an OS 'on the up'. |

Android and iOS have now reached a stage where it will take a serious (and I mean serious) push and some massive breakthrough hit device for Windows Phone to take off, and I just don't see Nokia delivering that when they are laying off tens of thousands of employees and relying on selling assets to get by. Android phones fly off the shelves, and even after Samsung got fined $1.05bn, sales of their Galaxy S3 were actually boosted. Apple also sell tons of iPhones when they release a new model, and I've not seen a Windows Phone device sell anything close to what they are selling. Android was formally released in 2008, and by 2009/10 it was a huge hit around the world with the Motorola Droid and Samsung Galaxy S. Microsoft formally released Windows Phone in 2010, and in the same year and a half time frame it took Android to take off, Windows Phone has achieved nothing, barely even managing to surpass the axed Windows Mobile marketshare. It's a massive failure, and if MS and Nokia don't score even a minor hit, then I'm willing to bet Nokia employees will soon be heading to Redmond. |

Unless new drivers are written for the old hardware to work on the new kernel, then it wont work. As for all the doom and gloom about WP, lets see how they get on after 'the UI formerly known as Metro' is launched on 'real' windows. |

Windows phone has been out 2/3 year now and we hear plenty of talk about how it'll do this and that but yet survey after survey comes out and it never seems to be improving in popularity, I just wonder how long it'll be before Microsoft say to hell with this.

Windows 8 (the OS not the phone), may help the sales of the Windows Phones. As seen with Apple products when people get one device in an eco-system they then buy up other devices in it too.
So someone may get a Windows 8 tablet or new computer, and once they start getting used to it they may be more inclined to consider a Windows phone. |

I tried a Windows 7.5 mobile but just couldn't get on with it - I liked the phone and the OS a lot but I hated the PC integration and having to use Zune - the worst thing though was it insisting on flooding my mobile contacts list with everyone from my messenger list and xbox live with no way to filter so I could only have those I actually phone or e-mail in my contacts and not people I might chat to or game with once in a blue moon and I also disliked the fact Windows phones are tight on storage but MS don't allow a microsd card slot in the specs (unfortunately some Android phones are now following this stupid path as well). I'm back on Android now, as I wouldn't touch an iphone cause of having to use itunes, but tbh my favorite OS of recent times was Symbian Belle as it seemed lightweight and had a good battery life, Nokia's OVI suite pisses all over zune and Itunes (one feature I really liked was being able to view my phones texts messeges in OVI Suite and write and send texts on the PC and send them through the phone when it was connected) as you have the choice of syncing what you want or just doing drag and drop, but unfortunately Belle lacked apps and functions like useing the mobile to tether had to be via a paid for app and they weren't cheap. With the Lumia 800 it doesn't allow a MicroSD card slot as there is one already built in to the phone with a card already in it. The phone does has 512MB internal and the rest is a MicroSD card that makes up the 16GB on phone. I don't mind Zune as I find it less intrusive than iTunes. Zune is also not bloated like Itunes is which is a good thing. The only hassle I had was to get my contacts from my Outlook to the phone, but once sorted everything went smoothly. It is so much better responsive wise than an Apple iPhone 3GS. |

I think it's too late for it to hit the no.2 spot any time soon especially as Samsung is storming ahead with Android.
Depending on how Windows 8 shakes out with the public, we might start seeing some visible growth in Windows Phone about 10 months from now. I reckon the great deals on the Lumia 710 this year have had a bit of traction. Moving to the NT kernel from CE will allow Microsoft to upgrade the hardware specs much faster and perhaps allow things like other processors, Samsung are understandably keen to use their own Exynos instead of Qualcomm all the time. Certainly on the hardware front, they are reaching parity with Android for now at least. Microsoft is pushing ahead with NFC in a way that no-one else is - it's in pretty much every Windows tablet and WP8 device and the Wallet Hub takes the best of both Android and Apple's implementations. Whilst WP8 might not overtake on features and PureView is watered down a lot and people seem to care less about cameras now, they will at least now do a much better job of keeping up in parity with the other two. |
