has this album officially flopped then?
or is it still hanging around?

i have to say, i think it is quite a solid effort, still she hasnt met the standard of her first album, but i really like a million lights, and its much better than the godawful previous album.

though i think the single choice of 'under the sun' is appalling.
there are far far better songs on the album. that song will not help sell it at all!

It's sold 70,000 according to Buzzjack. It's been hanging around the 40-50 mark for the last couple of months, so it's not doing very well.

I disagree about Under The Sun though. I think its the perfect second single. She should probably release Sexy Den A Mutha next (accompanied by an X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing performance) then either Ghetto Baby or A Million Lights after that.

I wouldn't call it a flop yet

You must remember. Cheryl hasn't had The X Factor to help sell this and the second single isn't officially out yet. All she has done is The Voice and pretty much sold this album by her name alone.

depends how you define "flop". is it a flop if it doesn't remain in the top 20 album charts for a certain period of time ?

is it a flop if it loses the label money ?

is it a flop if none of the singles are successful ?

considering the chart success of the singles so far, if the album has also turned a profit for the label, regardless of chart position, they'll probably consider it a success.

I don't think the album is doing THAT bad.

But she most definitely should not release Sexy Den a Mutha as a single. Now, that WILL flop. Screw You is the one that best screams a hit to me.

Yep. Airplay is all you need to sell an album really. Lots of artists have high-selling albums and never even come to the UK.

Same with singles (e.g. Airplanes, Give Me Everything, Good Feeling, etc.), all sold just off music videos and radio airplay. No TV performances needed.

To sell as little has she has with the exposure she gets is remarkably poor in my opinion

I think she is doing fine considering how poor albums are selling at the moment, apparently there has only been 11 albums this year that have sold over 100000 units.

Her team probably were expecting more though, but it doesn't help that her last big promotion was two weeks before the release of the album, she hasn't done much since.

Cherl didn't even get the #1 though, Justin Beiber beat her and the week after when everyone thought she'd move up, she fell to #6 with year old albums above her.

Well.....she's had nearly every high profile slot possible, plus near maximum exposure on radio and TV channels, her The Voice performance was hyped up for days, and she had a very big #1 single to lead the album, so the performance really is not great at all...

I think the only reason she shifted so many albums before was because of The X Factor, I think she will become a singles artist now, because clearly interest in this album was over-anticipated. They even had TV adverts running for it, so it has underperformed by quite a bit to be honest.

The X Factor was the obvious reason for her earlier success. She can't sing and I'm rather glad people are wising up....but of course it won't be mentioned like Alexandra or Nadine, she seems to be adored by the trash mags

Fastest selling single of the year.
Her Album did well in perspective of sales at this time of year.

She will perform somewhere no doubt and Album sales will rocket.

under the sun is flopping though in comparison to 'call my name'.
'screw you' would have gone top 10

When did Cheryl turn into a ghetto American?

WTF does "Sexy Den A Mutha" mean?

Ridiculous.

It's easy to say in hindsight that another song could have done better, but I still believe Under The Sun was the right choice at the time. And there's still plenty of time to release Screw You or any other track from the album.

And of course Under The Sun hasn't done as well as Call My Name. It's had zero promo (apart from a T4 performance two months ago) and the fans have already bought the album, so are unlikely to buy the single. Besides, it's not even been officially released yet and it's been doing very well on iTunes over the last few weeks. It's far too early to call it a flop.

Yes and she'll surpase the 100,000 sales in the next few weeks when she promotes her second single.

Under The Sun is doing allright, it still has time to go higher.

The album made #2.

I think Under The Sun and the third single will sell more.

It has performed very badly for a Cheryl Cole record. With a massive #1 single, her name and some good promotion around the time of the release and after and she can only get 70,000.

She will just about pass gold over all, anyone who thinks this will hit platinum is bonkers.

Under The Sun hasn't been released yet officially, and Call My Name did better because it wasn't available to buy until its official release date, whereas Under The Sun is available to buy because the album is out.

I really like the album and I'm not a fan of Cheryl as a media personality, and find the media's obsession with her totally absurd. AML is the first time I've respected Cheryl on any level as a pop star though. I think it's a great album. The video for Call My Name is amazing.

I'm surprised AML hasn't sold more than it has.

stir the pot, why don't you. alexandra has nothing to do with this discussion and nadine has even less to do with it. of course, it does seem now that x factor was a huge part of her ability to sell albums and the media do still promote her heavily. its hardly her fault though, that she is marketable.
