Microsoft Surface development halted
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20120830PD211.html
"HP has already decided to halt development of Windows RT tablet PCs, while Dell reportedly may also back away from the segment, according to sources from the upstream supply chain." I possibly wrongly sense they realise they are only a short term contract if 'made in just one big factory' is the way it is also heading. |

Surface RT would have been a less rushed headline..
Low margins maybe makes Hp and others wonder how much and how long Microsoft would commit to licensing. I wonder if for consumers and competition its best of some do Android and others Windows. |

The headline of article is "Microsoft fails to pacify PC vendors about Surface tablets", which is correct, your headline says "Microsoft Surface development halted" which is wrong. Or did they change the headline?

As well as Surface being strictly a Microsoft product range, there also seems be some doubt regarding Dell's policy:

It would still be wrong. Surface is a tablet the OS is Windows RT
The very first Microsoft Surface is a big screen Samsung TV. |

Certainly less wrong than you.
The very first Microsoft Surface is a big screen Samsung TV. Neither sense of "surface" applies to the range of products in your OP. |

(edits on the fly)
So Surface TV has been rebranded as Suface tablet. They have certainly changed the headline title though it still has "This Samsung 40" Full HD 1080p multi-touch computing device for Microsoft Surface takes computing to a new level. " I think of it as only a trademark so touchscreen laptops are likely too. Apart from price I do wonder if stuff such as the Vaio Surface range will be what everyone prefers. |

I think of it as only a trademark so touchscreen laptops are likely too. Surface now only applies to Microsoft's own tablet range. A non-microsoft tablet running the arm-based version of WIndows 8 is WIndows RT. EDIT: Theres no such thing as the Sony Surface. If you are referring to the Duo, that will run a full version of WIndows 8 so isn't even Windows RT |

Yep, I assumed Sony were taking aim with Surface, not at Surface.
Headline writers always need an angle. |

Alan what are you smoking, every single post here of yours is very inaccurate.
Let me give you a brief explanation of what happened. Microsoft made a multi-touch "coffee table computer", note NOT a TV. This was called Microsoft Surface. They later made a second generation of this 'coffee table computer' in collaboration with Samsung called the Samsung SUR40. This line of coffee table computers was rebranded PixelSense. The brand name Surface was recycled for use on the tablets that Microsoft itself has designed and made. It is, so far, exclusively for the use of two tablet products made by Microsoft - the ARM-based Surface and the x86-based Surface Pro. Windows RT is the name of the operating system that Microsoft made for ARM-based tablets to run. Windows 8 is the name of the operating system that Microsoft made for x86-based devices to run. What the article is saying is that the fact Microsoft has gotten into the hardware game and produced its own ARM-based tablet running its Windows RT software (called the Surface) has discouraged other OEMs from making their own ARM-based tablets running Windows RT. Hopefully now you will understand. |

It's really annoying when a headline doesn't even come close to reflecting the facts. Its even worse when the OP doesn't seem to even realise what a load of rubbish they have written.

It looks like those Intel based convertibles might be more attractive than tablets anyway. People will always need laptops and if you can use it as a tablet too and it has a reasonable battery life, it may even threaten tablets. Toshiba one looks nice. I was saving myself for Suface pro, but with the choice, I may try something else.

OK FACTS .
Microsoft Surface - being referred to as a tablet but a first demonstration also had it with a brilliant flip out keyboard to make it a notebook too. Microsoft Surface technology - in that Samsung Big screen telly. I made it clear weeks ago that Microsoft Surface is simply a registered trademark. There is now obviously also a Surface tablet. Don't we all love to call rubbish even when ignorant? "From touch to type, office to living room, from your screen to the big screen, you can see more, share more, and do more with Surface." |

I've already explained to you, the SUR40 was not a TV. I don't know about weeks ago, what I know is what I see in this thread and here you had gotten every post wrong and the thread title is very wrong. What does including that quote show? |

The FACT you're missing is how your headline has anything to do with the article you linked to.
Good of you to say. |

Yes, its steering us towards tablets whilst holding to the past. Otherwise they would make Samsung look a bit like an idiot. |

Methinks it came out late last year early this year.

Samsung will look like an idiot because an obscure business line got rebranded to PixelSense? I don't understand why you keep banging on in a way that people struggle to understand your posts too. Ever heard about not digging further when you're in a hole? |

Maybe that's why they rebranded it to PixelSense so that almost nobody would make the connection and they could use it exclusively for their hybrids, tablets/laptops.
