Making sense of it. Surface is now the touchy stuff. The obscure Microsoft Surface 2.0 was first sold in 2012. The product was renamed from "Microsoft Surface" to "Microsoft PixelSense" on June 18, 2012. "Direct interaction refers to the user's ability to simply reach out and touch the interface of an application in order to interact with it, without the need for a mouse or keyboard." All quite simple when you get below the surface. |

" HP has already decided to halt development of Windows RT tablet PCs"
Good of you to say. Surface is the hardware brand name for Microsoft's tablets; one of which runs Windows RT and the other runs Windows 8 Pro. Surface development hasn't been halted. Microsoft are still building Surface tablets. Several OEM partners have decided not to build Windows RT-based tablets - which is totally different. |

It's really annoying when a headline doesn't even come close to reflecting the facts. Its even worse when the OP doesn't seem to even realise what a load of rubbish they have written.

As you can see, the actual factual article I linked to on HP was never even discussed. |

According to that article HP aborted a development of their own WinRT tablet. Which was not a Surface tablet, despite you calling it that. Thus the title of this thread is misinformed and misleading.

So you are saying that not all Windows RT tablets will have the Surface label.
I wonder what the difference is between Surface RT and non Surface RT. (Metro is unusable due to a trademark dispute which obviously hints that Surface was meant to be the umbrella label for all aspects of MS touch.) |

I wonder what the difference is between Surface RT and non Surface RT. (Metro is unusable due to a trademark dispute which obviously hints that Surface was meant to be the umbrella label for all aspects of MS touch.) The difference between Surface RT and non Surface RT (Surface Pro) is that one runs Windows RT and the other runs Windows 8 Pro. Surface RT will use an ARM processor from NVidia, whilst Surface Pro will use a Core i5 from Intel. Other manufacturers have Windows tablets running with ARM, Intel Atom and Intel Core processors. Microsoft Surface is the name of a device, like how the iPad is the name of the hardware that runs the iOS operating system, or how a Samsung Galaxy Tab and a Goodle Nexus 7 both run Android. Saying Surface production has been halted because HP aren't making a Windows RT tablet is like saying Apple tried to get the Nexus 7 banned because they filed a complaint against the Galaxy Tab. |

Surface isn't a hardware or software technology, nor is it restricted to RT. It's the name of Microsoft's tablets. So far they've announced two Surface tablets, one running Win8 RT and the other one full Win8. This Wikipedia article explains it in more depth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Surface |

Which gets us right back to reasons behind the headline.
Methinks Linux could also be making a comeback here, but I have often thought that manufacturers should be forced to only provide hardware without an OS. |

Well it does seems to attract unhelpful trolling comments.
Now go tell digitimes and HP. |

Why would they be interested in your mistakes?
Everyone else prefers to actually take part. |

Surely, mistakes are mainly seen by fanboys.
It's more than a simple mistake. The title suggests that Microsoft have halted the production of their tablets. If you have followed the course of the story since Surface was announced, such a claim would be a major event. Either Microsoft would have caved to the threats of the Acers of this world, or Surface was actually vapourware as some people claimed. As it turns out, this story has nothing to do with the production of Surface. That's not fanboys complaining; that's people interested in accurate information complaining. I mean, come on, you are the only person on this thread arguing from your corner. Everyone else is saying how you are continually misrepresenting the facts. Isn't it time to simply admit you got it all wrong? It's better than continuing to dig yourself a hole. |
