I am in no way saying that Westloife would enhance this record in anyway musically. But think how many more copies could guaranteed to be sold with the sheep buying them up.

I agree I dont' think this new release is a patch on the original, but its for a good cause and even if it is crap, many people will buy it, I'm going to buy, just for the cause, not the song. Walsh is a miserable git.

I think I was taking offence at the 'making you feel guilty' part. I don't believe the purpose of Band Aid is to make you feel guilty - the purpose is to raise money for charity. There are two aims there - to make you feel guilty and to make you give money.

I actually think that rather than make you feel guilty, Band Aid could be aiming to make you feel better about yourself. Don't you get a feeling of smugness and self rightiousness when you give to charity? There is no such thing as a selfless act...

Hang on, the story as posted on DS doesn't make any sense. Louis Walsh is saying that he didn't want Westlife involved as the original is fantastic and the new version is bland. Well if he thinks the original is so fantastic, then surely he would have had high hopes for the new one and would have jumped at the chance to have one of his stable involved. As for the new version being bland, he would only have come to that conclusion after it had been recorded and released. How can that have influenced his decision?

No doubt there's the usual mis-quoting and quoting out of context, but this still doesn't really tell us the real reason why he blocked their involvement.

Apart from being a truly awful record, even by “chariteee” standards, it is IMO - very patronising. People in poverty don't want to be told, 'Hey, don't you know it's Christmas?' by anyone, let alone by a bunch of spoiled 'luvvies' with a limited vision of the world.

The simple fact is, these problems like so many others, should be addressed ALL year round - not just when the "guilt bug" bites.

Its not aimed at the people its raising money for. It supposed to make us think about people in the third world, hence the line by Bono "Tonight thank god its them instead of you".

The original version was much better.....the song suited the time period and the vocals were much more individual and it sounded less polished, more real, I think because it was rushed to get it pressed and into shops.

For Louis Walsh to say he wouldn't even buy the single just goes to show you where his morals lie! I bought it last week and helped propel it to number 1 yesterday. I think the criticism of the song is shocking. It just goes to show you how nasty we are as a society these days, calling charity "charidee" like it's meant to be some knid of joke or something!
