Do you have email pushed? Also try closing apps down from the app switcher.

Double click the home button and the currently running apps show at the bottom. Press them until they wobble and then touch the little red symbol. According to Mac Format this month it is rubbish though and doesn't affect battery life. They say that the app stops running after 5 seconds after being closed down.

Do you have an Apple store near you? You can take a phone back under warranty and they will swap it for a new one if faulty

I had this proble with my iphone 4s, turns out their is a bug in the firmware where the phone (in the background) tries to lock on to your location and drains the battery!

My phone was like yours i disabled the problematic setting and now i get two days or so use out of my phone.

The only problem is i can't remember what option i turned off but there was a lot about it on google at the time.

I will take a look and get back to you.

EDIT: It was something to do with location services under the settings tab, see: http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/28/iphon...tion-services/

Have you restored the phone recently from a backup?

I ask because this happened to me. I backed my 4S up, took it back for a replacement then restored it using the backup. I'm not sure what caused it but when it was restored the battery killed itself in 4 hours tops!

I phoned apples useless CS and they had no idea. Searched around and was told it was the backup that caused it. Restored the phone, installed the apps etc myself and it was fine!

Having apps open does not drain the battery when its asleep, unless its doing audio in the background like "Stitcher" which plays podcasts.

Indeed. The app switcher is a complete waste of time since its only a snapshot of what was running.

I have both of those on mine on all the time. Its a REAL pain having to turn both on/off at least every day.

Bluetooth every time i get in/out of my car (i drive to work).
Wifi every time i get home and leave!

Its hardly practical. Being able to set it time based would be very useful.

If your phone is running Android you shouldn't leave Bluetooth on anyway due to security issues.

Talking about going off topic, the problem is down to a software issue regarding Location services. It only affects the iphone 4S for some reason and if you google you will see thousands of posts regarding the issue.

The fix is simple.

Wifi is on 24/7 here and i make regular calls and texts and my Iphone 4s lasts 48 hours before i need to charge it back up, just like the OP my phone would last 6-8 hours until i read about the iPhone 4s battery drain issue and i did as recommended and disabled the troublesome Location Services app!

If you use a satnav app on your iPhone, I find these continue running in the background even after you've minimised, so go into the app drawer and close them manually.

Yes I have. I'm trying to be helpful. My mother in law had no issues with her iPhone until she installed a sat nav app. Turns out she was leaving it running in the background and it drained her battery in double quick time.

I've seen the exact same behaviour using Co Pilot on my iPhone 4S too.

It's only a suggestion!

Good luck on Apple adding something useful. I should really have patented that!
