hi everyone i'm going to get a huawei ascend g300 in a couple weeks, and it's gonna be £100 + £10 top up from a Vodafone shop, now if i go in there and buy it will they unlock it for me?
As i want either a giffgaff or three sim card for it..

If so how long and how much??
I've heard its £20 is this true?

Thanks x

Some people have managed to get Vodafone to unlock it for free, some people have had to pay £20. If you (or someone you know) has a Vodafone contract you might be able to get them to unlock it for free.

I just went with one of the people on eBay that sell unlock codes. Less than £6.

I also bought the phone itself for £72.95 (no credit) via Isme. Various deals to get it much cheaper than RRP are here.

Running the Infusion (Ice Cream Sandwich) ROM at the moment, but as soon as the audio routing bug is fixed i'll be moving to the (Jelly Bean-based) CyanogenMod 10 ROM.

bought one myself here too - worth mentioning

1/ You dont have to open credit account to get £30 discount - just make sure you enter the discount code at the checkout

2/ If you get this deal via quidco you'll also get 6% (off full price) cashback = Nett price of £67

3/ Last but not least - if you buy this Isme deal, the phone is alrwady on Vodafone so no need to unlock it at all

4/ BTW - Its depatched within 24 hours of ordering

Best deal this year

Vodafone will unlock it for 19.99. You have to top up credit and give them a call and they will take cost from credit and give you a code, you then need to put in a different network's Sim and when you switch phone on it will ask for the code. The phone will then be unlocked to any network.
Beware of using "market stall" unlockers for this handset as it has a tendency to re-lock on reboot if not done by Vodafone (that's my experience anyway others have managed to unlock it cheaper)

I sold mine but would still highly recommend the G300 as a very good phone for it's low price.

Make sure it is locked before you pay for an unlock code as there are plenty of reports of some units being unlocked out of the box. That said, I've bought two and both needed unlocked...

Good advice as I brought mine in Tesco’s last month and the G300 was not locked nor did I have to buy a £10 top up.
