As our puss eats only dry food (he went off wet stuff ages ago)
we bought him a water fountain,
Lovely trickling fresh water changed regularly, but he also goes out and drinks out of a dirty puddle

To be brutally honest, I think these fountains are aimed at owners more than cats, I'm sure cats have their reasons for preferring still water in a puddle.

If the water fountain is positioned near his food dish, that's another reason why he might not be drinking from it, our cat started drinking from his water dish after we moved it away from his food bowl - cats in the wild don't eat and drink at the same place.

His food is about 5 ft from his water.
I thought cats loved trickling water.

We leave the bath dripping, have done since Amber was a kitten and she pops in and out all the time.

So does love a puddle though and dirty bath water

Cats are strange when it comes to drinking, our last cat drank loads, water and milk but never saw her drinking from a puddle but sometimes she used to jump in the empty bath and lick the tap. My sis has a young cat now and she will not drink from the water bowl but will drink milk and likes the dirty puddles as well.

we find our cat sometimes in the loo drinking the water (obviously its clean!!) and likes a dripping tap!!

she will drink from her water bowl, but i do get worried sometimes she's not drinking enough, but cats are very independant and will find water from somewhere.

I have two new kittens, one of whom sits by my walk in shower miaowing until I turn it on for a bit so she can drink (when it's off again)

They also both sit there while I'm in the shower watching me, and trying to chase the water droplets. They both get in when I've got out too!

We give our cat water and cat milk yet he still chooses to drink out of the toilet! He only eats a specific dry food due to a bladder problem which resulted in an operation, and this food contains more salt than average so that he drinks more!

If I put water down for The Beast he uses it a wash basin.

Buggerlugs won't drink from her water bowl, until it's been standing for hours.

Waiting for the chlorine and other chemicals to dissipate, I expect.

I put water in a bottle for indoors and use that to top up the drinking bowl instead of straight out of the tap. In the garden, I have a couple of pots which collect rain water topped up with the hosepipe. Despite bowls all over the place, I still catch mine drinking out of the plant pot saucers.

None of my cats have ever drunk water from bowls (except Tabitha when she was dying), Bernard used to 'play' with the water but I used to often see them all drinking from my fish pond which has a waterfall and filter system. However, I think that the water still isn't very pleasant A few months ago, having seen Bernard desperately try to drink from the pond, through the protective netting, he seemed so thirsty, I eventually decided to buy a water fountain and all 3 of my cats love it, they all have a drink from it, at different times. I keep it switched on all the time, just change or top up the water frequently and change the filter 4-6 weekly. It was a good buy.
