I'm guessing that there might be quite a few people here for whom, like me, the Google Nexus 7 is their first foray into both Android and tablets, and are wondering what apps to install and how best to use up their £15 Google play credit. So this thread is for us to share recommendations for apps that really stand out, as well as to ask for recommendations from others.
Using my vast experience of several days use of the tablet (and I love the damn thing!), here's my list of stand-out apps so far:
Free Apps:
BBC news - Very slick alternative to using the web browser.
IMDb - As above.
Glowball - absolutely no use for anything, but it looks pretty (making full use of the Tegra 3 graphics capability) and everyone should try it!
Tunein Radio - very nice internet radio app. It has also made me rediscover podcasts, since they are now so easy to find. There's a "pro" version for a massive 69p which lets you record. I'll probably upgrade just to thank them for the app.
TED - Access to lots of talks about lots of subjects.
Paid for Apps:
ProjectM - this is great. It's a visualisation app that works with the music player or the microphone input, and also lets you manipulate the visualisations (of which there are many) using the touch screen. Well worth £1.89 out of your google play credit!
World of Goo - I'm not much of a gamer, but this is quite nice to have. There's a free version to try it out which would probably have met my gaming needs, but I impulsively spent £2.99 out of my credit on the full version.
Apps I want but have yet to find anything adequate:
I'd like a decent Freeview TV listings app. The nearest I've found is TV Guide from TVGuide.co.uk, but it is frustratingly flawed. With a few tweaks, it would be just what I want.
Any suggestions for something better gratefully received! For a good enough app, I'd even pay a modest subscription so that I can finally wean myself off paper listings!
