I have all the hdmi cables and converters plugged in where they should be and fiddled about with the tv settings and still the tv does not recognise the device...why what am i missing!!?

What converters? It's got a micro HDMI port so you only need a direct cable.

edit: If you're using an MHL converter via the USB port on the tablet then it won't work as the HDMI output is via the dedicated port, not through the USB port over MHL.
