I've never heard so much nonsense in my life. Some people need a reality check if they think this is due to "rubbish sound systems" and her risking damaging her voice. Modest may be crap, but this gil needs kicking into touch, and fast or she's going to end up stacking shelves in tesco.

Bad move. Even if the management is to blame you can't really defend it, it's letting a lot of people down.

She actually travelled down to Brighton and tried to make it work. The organisers are to blame for failing to accommodate her. She has apologised several times on Twitter for disappointing the fans that did turn up to the event.

The organisers are boasting about improved ticket sales at this year's event.

Anyone who bought a ticket to see Burke perform won't be amused.

This is like your 7th post defending her on this thread. You going to attack everyone that doesn't share your opinion on the matter?

Don't worry she's not after your job at tescos, calm down lol.

And the sound system was awful, a few of my friends were at pride and they confirmed it.

And OP you make it sound as if she murdered someone.

No I'm going to defend her against unfair criticism. Yes people were disappointed, but that's no excuse to label her a 'diva' because the organisers failed to accommodate her.

You do know Brighton is a city full of musicians, music producers and engineers? 10 minutes and a couple of phone calls and she could have had 10 of the best people in the business helping her, free of charge and had these musical problems sorted.

Norman has been plugging cables in to make music sound good outdoors for 25 years, I'm sure he'd have been very accommodating. Biff, producer of everyone from the Spices to Will Young to Hurts and everyone inbetween, and is also musical dir of XF was there, did she say "ere Biffy, give us a hand and sort this out!"?

Did she say to the crowd "I'm sorry guys, the sounds ****ed, but if you like i'll have a go at doing something acoustic for you, like the performer i am. I don't want to let you down. I know many of you at the back wont hear me, but I'd rather try do something than skulk off, disappointing you all and making myself look like a bitch, and giving myself yet more bad publicity"?

I have never worked at Tesco in my life, although if it pays the bills I would certainly do so, while hoping for an opening at Waitrose, or even better Whole Foods. I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to this subject, music, not Tescos, all that red and blue puts me off, although at least the cusomers are more civilised than last time i went into ASDA... :-O

In what way?

Quote:

The crowd wasn't big enough for her”

How is that making it sound as if she murdered someone?

Perhaps it's being Brighton born and bred, but there's something very 'Carry On' about that... Pulls out, not big enough...

You really think so? It takes more than 10 minutes to sort out those kinds of problems, and from what she's been saying there must have been some serious lapses in the system for her to quit like that....

She performs at Pride events across the country, so it's not exactly as if she just couldn't be bothered to work it out. None of us here know the ins and outs, but it's pretty much certain that she didn't quit because of 'the audience' when she has been playing small clubs and other venues across this summer.

At the end of the day she has to protect her own interests...maybe she did ask around to fix the issue but clearly they were not able to and she was left with no other option. It's just a shame that they felt the need to respond with fake spiteful quotes to make her look bad....it's not great that some people were disappointed, but at the end of the day, if they booked her, they should have been prepared for her and checked her requirements in advance, so I'm quite bemused that they've tried to shaft their bad management onto her.

Off topic, but can't help smiling when thinking about Cliff Richard performing off the cuff, 5/6 songs to the rain-soaked crowd at Wimbledon a few years ago, without any music at all

Like him or not - now that's what I call a REAL trooper Respect

I really think so. Look, at the end of the day i've spent half my life working with performers and as i said, even if it was 100% other people's fault, she walked into yet another complete PR disaster, one which anyone with half a brain could've predicted. As i said, she should've shown willing and, if it came to it sat on the edge of the stage and sung her divaish little heart out. When there is as much negativity around her as there is, the last thing she needs is to add any more.

If they could get Sir Cliff to come out and perform at a Gay Pride event that would be a coup.

This is exactly what i'm saying. A no show is never an option in this business. National treasure cliff may be able to get away with one (largely because the ears of the world would be breathing a sigh of relief) but otherwise you have to do something, or it just looks awful.

Could not agree more. Not only for her fans, but also on a selfish level. It would have got her so much respect

By the way, the greatest female singer of the last century had more "a no show" than actual appearances.

But is it today more necessary to have a good rendition than back in the old days. Today when somewhere is a event 5 hours later it is on youtbe.

yep, you don't need much to sing really do you, a mic and someone with a guitar or piano will do. It's only a lil event a bit of improv would have gone down a treat i expect

As I said, "the greatest female singer of the last century" can get away with it. Someone who won the X Factor and has a huge amount of bad publicity around her at the moment, not so much. I wouldn't say really that in a case like this it was better to be spot on, rather than to show willing and above all else NOT UPSET THE GAYS! lol!

I've done A&R, but PR is what I deal in, and I'd have rather she be shown up to be tone deaf than to type "Alexandra Burke" into google news and have headlines such as "Exclusive: Alexandra Burke shocks fans by 'snubbing' Brighton Pride" "'Diva' Alexandra Burke snubs gay pride show due to size of audience ..." and "Alexandra Burke Facing New Diva Allegations" pop up at the top.

If she has so much talent and is one of the "best vocalists from the UK" then surely she can just shrug it off and perform? All you need is a microphone and some basic sound equipment - she could have easily explained the situation to her fans and then performed an acoustic set. This is an incredibly bad move by her and her management.

I expect it was her management who ultimately decided to do this. She has said on twitter several times that it was 'out of her hands' and 'out of her control'...I doubt she just showed up then walked off...

I've used that excuse on many an occasion, it usually means the complete opposite hahahahaha! Like "exhaustion" means "off one's face on coke" and "sleep deprivation" means "had so much meth he's not slept in a fortnight"
