Yet he never once comments on the dress of his receptionists. Perhaps he only notices the shoes of potential romantic targets.
Very early on he comments on Pauline's clothes indirectly, on the phone "cheap..." Sorry I am not home so can't get the series, ep or quote!

We will have lots to talk about in these next weeks with S4, I don't want to get too ahead, but I think he is a bit clueless about Edith's intentions. IMO it is more a 'breather' for him, a chance to step away from the emotional upheaval of Louisa and her news and to have something academic to focus on. In this first episode when LG asks who she is he looks at her with almost a question in his face like " who is who?" and then just responds Edith.
Yeah - I got a little ahead of myself as far as our re-watch. I don't think he thought about it at first. I think it was several episodes into the series that he considered it. But I don't think he considered it for long - just a momentary madness

We'll have to watch for that and try to break it down as we head through this series in the re-watch. My thinking right now is that the thought of sharing the hotel room was what brought him to his senses. I'll watch more closely when we get to that episode.

That is the one with Wallace and Paddy - S1E3. He says to Wallace (?) 'where's the receptionist' , he shrugs and then DM says 'cheap looking, late 20's"

And sorry, it is S2E3. Blood is thicker. I love that line.

Just watched this; not a horse person myself but found it very interesting and MC charming, as usual.

He is SO different from Doc Martin -- really hard to imagine how he does it.

Good, I hope so. And I figure it'll be the UK fans who are most likely to get to Cornwall to fill us in on the filming.

As for me, no, trip isn't booked. I ran into some major home repairs (that sounds like I walked into a wall, doesn't it?) that left me broke, so things are iffy right now.
Oh yeh, I've nearly walked into a wall many times!!! lol BUT you only live once girl!!! go for it !!! I intended to go Cornwall then got an offer to go to LA..... so Im afraid Im back in the US early April!!! (not with the mad bunch tho!! LOL). x

Yes the UK fans will keep u all posted but you do need to look out for 'spoilers' that dont suit everyone but of which there will be (probably) many!! x

Here's the 'Daybreak' interview. The 'This Morning' one still isn't available and it's taking longer than usual to get the Heavy Horsepower documentary. I imagine I'll have it by tomorrow unless I am able to access it before it gets too late here tonight.

bonus night -- our Detroit PBS station was showing the first of the DCI Banks episode with Caroline Catz. She was very good, but I think she's even better in Doc Martin.

So those of us in the US are conspiring to get to Cornwall and you're going to LA? Oh, no! Your singing on stage in a Beale Street bar girls won't be with you? Tragedy! LA's loss.

As for me, I like spoilers. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to make that choice too.

Thanks for that, Connie. It was a nice, sweet bit. He does love his horses.

And once again, his haircut has got my mind running. It's a DM haircut just a tiny smidgeon grown out. What has he been up to? WHY did he cut his hair into a DM haircut early? NewPark, I think you latched onto my suspicions too. Whassup?

I have never been able to make up my mind about whether or not DM actually thinks seriously about taking up with her romantically. Again, I suppose it's the ambiguity thing and that we're supposed to be kept guessing.
I think his ' relationship ' with Edith is easier for him to cope with - he knows where he is with Edith - she's like an old slipper ( NOT slapper...). But didn't she play a blinder ?

Whereas with Louisa - he's head over heels and all of a muddle; trying SO hard and getting it wrong...most of the time...TOO much at stake...

Agreeing with you AGAIN Newpark

Not a horse-lover myself, but beautiful beasts and what other breed would suit a big man like MC ? And they are ' Clunes ' - his boys..

Hasn't our boy come a long way since he was a ' Man Behaving Badly ' ? He can communicate globally with whoever he meets.

What an actor...what a man...

i just realized last night that the title of this episode is "The Devil You Know" -- shorthand for "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know" -- which It think means just what you said here. A relationship with Edith he must know would be easy and make few demands on him -- he could sleepwalk through life with her as ShopGirl aptly put it -- but Louisa and now a newborn is terra incognita and that in itself makes it scary.

So very true.

I love Edith. She was just the character needed to stir things up, great lines and Lia Williams is excellent.

I know Biffpup -- it's odd. We know he prefers his "locks" to the Doc Martin haircut, so why do it? But if they're filming somewhere other than Port Isaac, e.g., London, I think we would know about it.

He does say he's going down to Cornwall "next month" so I expect in a very few weeks we'll begin to get info about casting calls -- and the age of the infant/child called for will tell us a lot.

The Great Re-watch
S4e2 Uneasy lies the head
Director: Ben Bolt
Writer: Ben Bolt

Martin Ellingham struggles to deal with Louisa's news, and is conflicted over what action to take. But Louisa is adamant she does not want Martin involved. Auntie Joan, however, is highly insistent that she help Louisa through the pregnancy. Louisa takes a job back at Portwenn Primary School, where the headmaster is creating suspicion and public concern over his increasingly erratic behaviour. Martin realises the schoolmaster is unwell when he evacuates blue urine. Things come to a frightening turn when he takes a class of schoolchildren to the beach.

"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown."

Shakespeare Henry IV Part II, 1597.

Meaning

A person with great responsibilities, such as a king, is constantly worried.

Goodie! This is the one with that great scene between Auntie Joan and Martin when she finds out that Louisa is pregnant. Love it!

Oh, and the Miracle at Portwenn Surgery. Pilgrims will come from miles around to see how an interior rest room somehow gains an exterior window.

Yes, I guess you're right. I guess news of any sneaky advance filming would have gotten out. But I just can't figure out the haircut.

Oh, right, right, the age of James Henry! Yes! We should know soon. Fun!

The DM haircut might be for MC to get into character - to help with the rewrites and rehearsals - and/or to get rid of any tan lines that may have occurred around the longer hair.

I am really hoping for the next day or so.
I guess that makes the baby about 6-8 weeks?

I think it was Kernow that passed along the news last time. I hope he is able to do it again!

The "tan line" is a great hypothesis. Works for me.
