I mean, the big question we've all dabbled with before is that why on cancelling their wedding, did they feel compelled to cancel their developing relationship? The former did not have to destroy the latter. But, their inter-relationship issues were never further processed after the wedding, and on top of that, there was now a great deal of hurt and disappointment in both of them, no doubt, worse because she left and they were mutually alone in their misery. It's absolutely crazy for her to believe DM would, upon her return, bend his knee, whisk her into his home, strew roses in front of her, feed her chocolate by hand! It's Harlequin romance to the nth degree. And, it was not rooted in any solidity in her own mind, either, as simply seeing another woman, sitting calmly at his kitchen table, destroyed her fantasy to the exclusion of her even asking him and if they were now together. We have a fantasy evaporated by an assumption. Not a good way to start! ![]() If LG was honestly thinking her return would be so ideal, after knowing DM for so long, she is a bit clueless. If she wanted DM to welcome her back, she could have written a letter, explained her circumstances, and told him she was coming back to PW. That alone would have drastically changed her home-coming. But, doing it as she did, even though I know DM is a deeply flawed character, I think he reacted as natural as anyone would. We see that that fantasy--DM will be her immediately knight in shining armour--is immediately replaced by her I can do it all alone fantasy. When she says she'll simply take the two weeks off allowed by law after delivery, and then be back to teaching, one can almost cringe at her lack of a reality check. I'm sorry, I know I am sounding harsh about LG in this episode. I am not "anti-LG", as I've mentioned before. But, I do think in this episode she does set the whole stage for the constant harping we have to go through in this season. Luckily, she had the right partner in the show to join in so well and make it last throughout this series.

But, I think we aren't necessarily talking about whether her thoughts were delusional. In fact, yes, I agree -- very possibly delusional. I think she sat there alone in that bedsit, pregnant, scared, possibly depressed, and still in love with the father of her baby. It's conceivable that a kind of wishful fantasy developed in her mind. She's intelligent enough to know, however, upon arriving in PW, that this fantasy may not happen. But I think she was wishful. Unfortunately this wishful thinking contributed, I think, to her overreacting in the opposite way. I can do this on my own, not your problem, I can manage, all of that business. |

In fact, I think it's entirely possible that if at that point he had offered to strew her path with roses, she would have backed off immediately. It was the playing out of their relationship over the next 3 months, with Edith in view to make both of them more conscious of how they felt about each other, that enabled the fragile and tentative reconciliation at the end of S4. I can't fault him for his initial reaction to her appearance at his door. Similarly, I can't really fault Louisa for her defensiveness, which started them down the wrong path. I think she was hurt, and already feeling insecure and anxious, and she wasn't in the best place to pull herself together and respond reasonably. Even the most mature person can have lapses (and we know she isn't that). I also cringe at her unrealistic fantasies of life as a single mother. It's an interesting question as to why they didn't just postpone their wedding and try to put their relationship on a more solid footing. But, if they had truly already decided that they just couldn't be happy together, wouldn't it be a little masochistic to keep banging your head against that brick wall, absent any further stimulus to change, like a baby? |

Well, he's talking about "his" Emma auditioning for the DM cast and doing well, and about reading four scripts simultaneously, but as he's appearing in something else at the same time as DM is shooting, maybe that doesn't mean too much.
I wish I knew how old this Emma is. And he tweets about "very intriguing news" which alas, he can't share with us. |

Highly recommend this video for Caroline Catz' take on what's going on with Louisa at start of S4. And doesn't she have a lovely laugh? |

Looking for location help in Cornwall
There are three S4 locations that I know have to be in Cornwall and I'm hoping one of our lurkers here recognizes one or more of them.
1. The interior of the hotel (supposedly in Exeter) from E7 has really had me going. It looks very distinctive with the dark paneling in the hallways and the beautiful open staircase. I recently came across a post from 2009 of a young woman who was hired as an extra when she was visiting Cornwall and her friend worked in this hotel. So this was confirmation that the hotel is actually somewhere in Cornwall. I have tried to send a message to her, although she has not posted on that board for a few years. I also have a message out for the actress that Biff had found who was in the hotel shots. I even tried tweeting the actor who played the waiter, but he has only tweeted 4 times - all back in November when he set up his account. Here are some pictures - anyone recognize anything? http://www.flickr.com/photos/35584579@N00/8467885089/ 2. The clinic where Edith works. DM refers to it as the modern building next to outpatients. I have looked all over the hospital campus in Truro and can't find anything like it. There is a college campus across the road with similar buildings, but they just don't match. http://www.flickr.com/photos/35584579@N00/8468980352 3. The pub used in S4 for the Crab. It has a larger open area than they have at The Golden Lion and the staircase is fancier. When you see Louisa walk in the door in E2, there is a sign by the door that says "The Victoria" but searching on that didn't get me anywhere. The pub is also used in E3 when Joe and his brother are in the pub and when Al joins them there. I have looked at a LOT of Cornwall pub interior pictures online but just haven't hit on anything yet. http://www.flickr.com/photos/35584579@N00/8468980536/ Hoping maybe someone recognizes one of these spots! |

Filming in Port Isaac this spring
This was just posted on FB, the DocMartin fan page. I thought those of you who might be planning a trip to Port Isaac (and are not on FB) might be interested.
David Morgan: I live in the village. The filming takes place all over Cornwall. A week or so can pass and the filming may be away from the village. You must accept that this is our home and not a film set. The film company realise this and are very understanding and courteous trying best to cater for everyone by filming at other locations. They may only film here a few times. Until they actually start we will not know where they are. |

MC on Would I Lie to You?
I was showing my sister some MC videos this evening and we watched the "Would I Lie to You" video about the socks & shoes. I was telling her that it always reminds me of the only bit I remember from the old show "All in the Family".
I'll bet a couple of you know exactly what I am talking about. I just googled the string "all in the family sock" and pages of hits came up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFuni...e_gdata_player |

But then last year wasn't a filming year. I think he lets his hair grow out a bit now and then, but seems to have adopted the DM cut as his own look.

OK, I know, I know MC has been wearing his hair short lately, but that is absolutely, positively the Doc Martin haircut. I still wonder if some secretive shooting didn't take place early. Can't help myself. |

But "last year" isn't that long ago, just a couple of months. Oh, but I see all of the green trees and green grass. Nevermind, okay, calm now. |
