Perhaps then we can get on with discussing the iPhone without having thread after thread needlessly derailed by people on both sides of the debate. I cannot be the only person on here sick to death of every single thread discussing the iPhone turning into an iOS vs Android pissing contest”

^^^This. It's really quite tiresome now.

When catching up with a thread I find it much easier to simply apply in every instance of her posting 'Android is crap my Iphone is better blah blah' so much quicker than actually bothering to read them.

I agree, there are always several discussions within a thread ignore those that bother you.

I do try, but it would be so much nicer if we could actually talk about the topic rather than having deluded weirdos spouting incorrect and polar opinions.

To keep this on topic, I'm still not convinced that this iPhone will offer anything new or interesting enough for me to warrant an upgrade.

I don't think Passport will work fully in the UK from launch, I'm not that keen on the idea of NFC for payments anyway, and I already have Facebook integration on my HTC Chacha which I purposely turn off. The FB integration will make developers lives easier for sharing bits like game high scores and stuff, but they can already do that anyway. This just brings it under Apple's control.

You never know Apple might have something up their sleeve. I don't expect it to be much but if they had a siri type gimmick they could use it to market the iPhone 5. They could try and go with their Tom tom navigation I suppose.

I'm sure when the real iPhone 5 specs come out we will all have a serious discussion.

There's nothing about Passbook that will stop it working in the UK, it just depends on how many UK based companies decide to make use of it.

I would like to think that Apple will have a couple of big household names signed up in all of their major countries which will hopefully spur others on to use it.

Yep, we need to wait for the official Apple event to get the real spec's etc. Look what happened last year when everyone was convinced we were getting iPhone 5. But we got the 4s.

I'd rather them upgrade the hardware significantly than the OS.
iOS works perfectly well and suits all of my needs as it does many other people.
I won't be getting the iPhone 5 though. The 4S is good enough for me and I have not experienced any of the problems listed throughout this thread like a cracked/shattered screen, bad battery life, lagging etc.

I have no idea why people thought it would be a Iphone5 as they do a main version and then the following year a smaller upgrade.

So it never made sense that we would not get another S version last year.

I just hope they have something that will grab me to get the 5 as i want to upgrade from my 4 but i wont have a £1200 18 month contract if its poor.

That's false. 4G will not be so big any time soon. Maybe towards the end of next year it will. Besides, a new 4G S3 is being released at the end of this month.

I prefer not to have 4G because I'm happy with the speeds I am getting and I don't want 4G to be eating away at my battery.

Yes the 4G Nexus received awful reviews from a battery life perspective. I do think that the tech might be there but batteries arent good enough for 4G yet.

Plus 'rolling it out soon' implies that London will get it and a few other cities maybe. The rest of us will be waiting years.

I don't think we'll even see it till next year because O2 are suing ofcom for allowing EE to have a competitive advantage.

Not sure what people were / are expecting in all honesty. the iPhone has its shape - it's had the same shape in all it's five guises. What are they going to do? Make it a circular phone? Don't think so.

What's going to be new? 4G capability and not much else I'd imagine. What more can these companies do? Unless it'll wipe your arse for you, it's not going to be that innovative is it? That goes for Apple, Samsung and the others.

A phone shaped like an apple. Copy that Samsung!

I really dislike Apple, but what do you want, a circle phone? If millions of people buy it as it is, why change what isn't broken? As long as the specs are decent enough for an upgrade, then I don't see how you or anyone can have a go at the design, It's a phone. There is only so much you can do.

We can expect more because aren't apple supposed to be great innovators when it comes to mobile design? I mean that hold all these design patents and go around suing everyone. So big daddy Apple need to bring it with the iphone 5 design.

If you're taken in by all that, then more fool you really. It's a phone. HTC have their designs, Sony have theirs. There isn't much Apple can do that would change the phone for the better.

One that doesn't look like the 2 prior to it maybe!

The iphones before that don't look anything like the iphone 4.

What's wrong with what it looks like?. It's rectangular, good for a phone. It has a screen, good for a phone. It has a camera, good for a phone. I mean, seriously, do you want them to make it square just so it doesn't look the same?

The S3 looks nothing like an S2, the HTC one X looks nothing like an HTC prior to that. Why is it the iphone 5 if at all real, looks identical to the iphone 4? That look is fine for the iphone 4 but this is a new model which warrants a new design.

I would rather have a solid 3G signal everywhere that 4G anytime soon

If that is indeed the iPhone '5' that's launched next week, would you get one?
