Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Ray, Neo not getting ICS update

O2 have confirmed they won't be doing an official ICS ROM for the above phones. If you've been holding out for one, now's the time to get yourself over to XDA Developers

The thread title is really misleading as it suggests those models of handset won't be getting ICS full stop, as opposed to just O2-locked units.

I'm pretty certain Sony have already released ICS for unlocked Arcs, Rays and Neos.

That's not good, why should user's of perfectly good phones able to handle ICS be let down?

That's what I llike about apple, everyone gets the latest update on the same day!

Except they don't.
They get the same 'version' of iOS but older devices don't get the same features/functionality - even if the hardware can support it.

Beat me to it!

Also every update apple brings out isnt really an update since nothing of any use has ever been added!

They did release an update for each, but they were with a proviso that they didn't guarantee the performance of the phone with the update - a bit like the whole HTC Desire fiasco.

This is a prime example of why carrier bloatware can ruin a phone, and why the work that the XDA folks do is so important. They seem to be able to get things to run so much better than the so-called experts!

Just goes to show that you should always get your contract though CPW, P4U or another third party as your phone will generally be unlocked and unbranded. In the last year all three contract phones I have signed up to have been unbranded. And at much better deals than any carrier could offer.

That's what I always used to do but I've been told CPW have changed their T-Mobile upgrades process - meaning that if I upgrade with them I can only choose one of the new tariffs, not stay on my old one.
Going to need to talk things over with T-Mobile's Upgrades team and see if there's any other way I can get an unbranded handset and keep my tariff.

Well I've got a CPW unbranded (I assume unlocked although I haven't tried another SIM card in it) Sony Ericcson Arc with a o2 sim card and I'm still waiting for ICS

Yeah, 99.99% CPW never had any locked variants of the Arc.

Have you tried connecting the handset to the Sony (Ericsson) PC Suite?

Don't know about the others but the Ray is better on Gingerbread anyway.

Strange...your posting history says you currently don't own an iPhone... Ooh the tragedy of the 24'000 posting history and web caches going back 20 years

Explain why crApple only released Siri on the iPhone 4S and not the 4 or the 3GS which a perfectly capable of running it? Why do crApple increase the fragmentation in iOS every time there is an update?

Have you tried Sony Ericsson Update Service?

It's meant to be better for updating your phone's software than PC Companion, more stable.
