Technically if it comes out in 6 weeks, then plus the 6 weeks or so it's already been out, that makes a gap of 3 months.

Did they though? You bought it, so you felt it right for your needs. If 3G is as big of a requirement as you are making out... why did you buy a tablet without it? The Wi-Fi-only Nexus 7 does not become obsolete if (and it's still an 'IF' at this point) a 3G version is released: if I buy an automatic Audi and then 3 months later they release the manual version then I haven't really been "shafted".
I appreciate that there was no "warning" that a 3G version would follow the original tablet, but for a savvy buyer it shouldn't matter: if the non-3G version is suitable, then a 3G version makes no difference to purchase; and if the non-3G version
isn't suitable then it shouldn't have been bought.
