ATM I have a iphone 4 which was out of contract a few weeks back and held off upgrading to see what the latest iphone brings out before deciding what to get.

Looking to sell my iphone 4 but when is the best time to move it on. Before they even announce the latest version or once it is announced but before released. When would the 4 drop in value. Looked on cex website and there offering £190 cash or £250 in credit

Ty for any advice

As soon as the new model is announced, loads of fanboy 4S models will get sold.

You need to get in before that announcement.

Yep. The companies become sneaky and lower the trade in value becauae they know loads of people are going to want to sell theirs. If its in good condition consider selling it privately

Even privately, the price will drop as soon as there's an announcement simply because of supply and demand. 4 and 4S models will flood the market, making each sale go down in value.

The iPhone 5 announcement is likely to be 12th September. Which means, sell now!

Yeah the phone is spotless and totally mint but £190 doesn't seem to bad TBH. Even if i stuck on ebay with fees can't see me getting much more

Just checked on Vodafone buy it back and they are offering £185

Sell when ever you want, even iPhone 3g's get a decent price years after release so your iPhone 4 will be worth a good price for a while yet.

As has been already said a iPhone 3Gs will fetch £150+ on Ebay so I wouldn't worry about an iPhone 4/4s droppng to much anytime soon.

Don't forget its not a Samsung so it won't lose £200 in the first 8 months.

Yeh, what happened last year is that when the 4s came out/announced the iPhone 4 trade in price dropped sharply (as loads of people were going to trade in) and it stayed quite low for a while. And then after the 4s had settled in the iPhone 4 trade in price rose again.

I can imagine that happening again, thats why i said these guys are sneaky. So like i care is also right in terms of the iPhone price will roughly be the same even after iPhone 5, as it is before. But you will get slightly more money for selling it around now before a possible announcement.

The best time to sell your iPhone is the day you collect your Android phone

That's a pretty good price for a handset that is now 24 months old. On Ebay you'd maybe get £250-£275 but it depends if its worth the hassle.

Considering a much newer Galaxy S2 can now be bought for under £200 then even £190 is great for a much older phone.

Even a used Samsung Galaxy S3 sells less than the much older iPhone 4s, and that's going to get much worse with the news of an updated S3.

That's the benefit of paying a fortune for a old fashioned phone. The difference between the current model and a 2 year version is so small, the price is similar as they are all the same (unlike Android phones that have moved forward in the last 2 years, so obviously the more recent ones are more desirable).

Oh dear someone on here is seriously deluded or someone on ebay for paying £150 for a 3gs, I sold a near perfect one recently under a year old and it only managed £107!

The 3gs doesn't work very well any more, probably designed that way to encourage upgrading...

The 3GS in phone years is getting on a bit - not because it's been designed to

You get £202 for the iPhone 4 16GB White on CeX at the moment if it is unlocked but this dropped from £252 a few weeks back.

That's poor, even CEX are offering £117 for an 8GB iPhone 3GS.

I got more than £107 for my 4 years old iPhone 3G a couple of months ago and all I did was pop into my local CEX and was given cash there and then.

I'd recommend putting it on Gumtree to see what offers you get .

This site seems to compare all the recycling company prices although eBay often offers the best price

despite all the manoeuvrings the best time to sell it is when you no longer want it.

yes the price will drop when the iPhone 5 comes out. not lest because there will be a lot of people selling them. but unless you are willing to go without there is nothing you can do.
