Ronan Keating - Fires
Joe McElderry - Here's What I Believe

Granted Joe hasn't promoted much...but Ronan's been on radio. Ronan is about 100 on iTunes, and Joe no where to be seen...possibly two of the best songs of their careers. Ronan's song is very catchy. Joe's is very heartfelt and what he should have been doing from the beginning.

But i'm sure whatever crap The Wanted, JLS and One Direction churn out will storm to the top.

I don't know with respect to Ronan but from Joe's point of view (and I'm sure some will tell me I'm living in a bubble here LOL) he's said all along Here's What I Believe was a focus track, primarily to precede the build up to the album, rather than a single intended to chart in its own right.

Because Joe is with Universal, HWIB was released in accordance with their on air on sale policy, some time before the single even had its first radio play and before Joe started his radio tour or released the video. In fact, I think when it was released he'd only performed it at a couple of live gigs.

The interviews and acoustic sessions Joe did on his radio tour are being broadcast now, but Joe is still struggling for airtime for the song with the exception of BBC Radio 2 who've playlisted HWIB on their B list.

TV promo starts this week for the next 3 weeks or so, so hopefully that will have the desired effect for album sales, but I don't know whether it will make much difference to the single track.

I guess it is just taste then as personally I don't like either of these songs. Joe's song just sounds like an X factor winner's song from year's ago. Neither songs have a current sound

think about the word amazing for a minute and what it means to actually be amazed by something, then listen to one or other of these songs

does the adjective really fit

Not that i would call either of them amazing by any stretch , but generally, if you're not appealing to the kids then you have no chance in the singles chart.

Ronan Keating is a terminal bore and Joe's song is dated and dull. I know music is subjective but I'm boggling at the idea of either song being thought of as amazing.

Ronan has an older fanbase who probably don't download singles, he's had good airplay on R2 so I expect his album will do quite well, it's his first original album in years so I expect his fans are chomping at the bit waiting for this.

Both singles are very dated though, they were never going to be hits in their own right

The music industry is dieing - and on top of that people simply don't have money to spend on luxury items like music anymore. Its pirate it or stream it. Went for a jar of coffee yesterday and couldn't find one under £3

This doesn't seem to be affecting other songs in the top 10

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/album-sales...135247551.html
Album sales for the first two quarters of 2012 totalled 43.6 million, down from the previous year's 50.3 million.

Dangerous has sold over 32 million albums worldwide
one artist sold nearly as many album copies in 1992 as the total albums from many artists in 2012.

It’s no surprise that sales are down if you take a glance at the UK top 40 where a handful of artists seem to be achieving repeated success. Music Week reported that Adele’s second album ‘21’ is currently spending it’s 22 week in the UK top 10 album charts, with it leaping from number 3 to back up to the number 1 spot in the past week. Sales jumped up to 22,235 copies over the last week. While this may be great news for Adele, who is worth £20m and topped The Telegraph’s young musician rich list, her album sales were the lowest for a number one album for 11 weeks.

Im aware that sales are particularly low at the moment but it doesn't mean everyone is flopping.

well except for 11 million difference. besides, that album was released in 1991 and he was still releasing singles and touring the album in 1993. i don't think he sold that many copies of that album in 1992.

Ronan's song is a crap version of Take That's Beautiful Day. Nobody gives a toss about him anymore.

This is Ronans first release since news of his affair broke, Ronan would have had a huge female fanbase and many 35+ so he would have lost a few there, i could be wrong but i for one have no time for him since that affair was revealed because half his appeal was he was a true family man who would never cheat.

I'm not a great Ronan fan but I have to say I can't listen to his new songs (radio 2 is giving him lots of airplay) without thinking about his personal, it does seem to have let a bad taste in the mouth, especially as he traded so much on his nice/family man image

I regard both as album artists. I think Robbie will suffer the same fate.

See what the albums do.

Hmmm, never thought the price of coffee would be used as an excuse for 2 very middle of the road songs not charting. Nice one OP OP, this is 2012 not 2002, that is why Ronan isn't charting.....do please keep up with trends.

Anyway, how many cups do you get from a jar, then compare the cost of 1 coffee in, say, Starbucks.

No opinion about either song, but I am definitely amazed at the price of tea and coffee now!

I hadn't realized Ronan had released the single, I saw him on The One Show about a week or so back and he only mentioned the album coming out, he didn't really promote the single as a single, just a song from the new album. My mam got his album yesterday though and I actually think it's very strong, for me there was no dud and it's quite consistent all the way through, not so much one very catchy song and the rest fillers which I've come to accustomed too, but all very strong songs. It was a pleasant surprise! I wonder if the affair is effecting him a bit too, he wasn't exactly known as a bad boy, he could have lost a bit of respect from some of his fans. But overall I think the album will perform decently as long as he keeps promoting it.

Joe I think will probably be suffering from lack of promo and again he's very much an album artist. He's had focus tracks in the past that haven't done much on their own, but have sold the album. Hopefully this is another case of that. Plus the video only came out this week and he's got virtually zero airplay from radio, so he's almost relying on his current fan base alone. It won't be easy for him to do well, but I hope the album can be a success for him, it sounds like his best to date imo.
