Sorry if its already been mentioned but just noticed that Amazon has several free apps of the day if you install their appstore (you will also need an amazon account)

Slightly worrying you have to allow unknown sources to install it!

As long as you trust the originator it shouldn't be a problem. I can understand why Play Store wouldn't host a "rival" app store.

Oh sure, I can just see some getting a bit confused, plus the instructions don't tell you to untick when you have finished which is poor.

Why would you need to? If you don't trust an app then don't side load it. You don't need your phone to tell you that.

you need to keep it unticked to install any apps from Amazon in the future. Or I suppose you could manually tick it each time, but I can see why Amazon wouldn't tell you to put it back.

Anyway, glad I don't have to pretend to be American to use the Amazon app store now. The free app of the day stuff is hit and miss, but I have had some good ones.

Are the free apps the same as the US ones or do we get specific UK free apps?

its a faff to check both as there doesn't seem to be a way of signing in as another user in the app, you need to uninstall then reinstall the app entirely.

But.... today in the UK - "going nuts" and "who wants to be a millionaire" are free. in the US, its "daily cardio workout".

I had the US version of the appstore available (only for free apps). However after a while, it stopped working. Cant remember why now. Some of the apps were good, and worth having, others not so much. Will be interested to see what the UK store offers.

Any ideas on when the web-based version of the appstore will be available in the UK?

I guess we have rather different experiences of what a 'typical user' is when it to software/hardware.
