Foxsat-hdr owners can view it by copying the 3 files to a usb stick. HDR-1000s should be able to play the .ts file as is.

I disagree, WiFi would be a waste of money/power consumption for me and many others I suspect. Cat5 isn't hard to run.

Are you serious? Anyone who can afford to pay £300 for a digibox can afford the extra £1 it would cost them to add wifi!

Mobile phones come with wifi as standard these days you could argue it is not needed as the phone has its own internet connection but the cost to add it is minimal so its just added as standard these days.

I dunno, it wouldn't look so bad sat next to my White Wii and maybe a White WiiU if I get one.

Anyhow if anyone's that desperate for WiFi I don't think they will really care what colour it is.
Also agree with Graham, Wifi would be a wasted addition for me also and Freesat themselves don't even recommend using it for on demand content on their website, but the White Humax box will be the first.
For £299 all your paying for is the extra capacity hard drive which for an extra £20 is a bargain.

It's not £300.00 and yes I am serious, And as for costing £1.00 that's patently absurd. There's a perfectly good WiFI Dongle and you can get the compatible Edimax one and the box for less than £300.00. Many have their pvrs in anything but an ideal spot for wifi, the dongle allows you to use a short usb lead to find a much better spot for WiFi reception.

Your phone example is just plain daft a phone is a portable device like a tablet PC without WiFi a tablet PC would be pretty pointless. For fixed kit there is loads of alternatives, hard wired (by far the best and cheapest option), dongle, wireless bridge and home plugs for instance.

The box does retail around the £300 mark, simples. As for dongles they take up a USB port, look unsightly and run the risk of being damaged and causing additional damage to the USB port!

The wholesale manufacturing price on adding a wifi chip to a device is errr cheap as erm chips!

Considering the the box needs an internet connection for on demand content it really is poor show of them to scrimp on such an important feature to save a few pence and make the overal percentage on profits look better!

They could even of left out the Ethernet adaptor and provided wifi in its place probably at no additional cost. I don't even know anyone who uses Ethernet other than probably graham above.

I think that iPlayer program that is shown in your video is actually in standard definition though ! If you go into the iplayer standalone app, and find SETTINGS and set quality to HD, then find that same program in the player, you will see that it plays in HD. Due to the higher resolution of the HD stream (presumably 1080i) the BBC logo in the corner is much smaller, which is how you can tell at a glance if you are seeing an HD stream versus SD (the SD streams are actually pretty good, probably better that the broadcast version!)

I do - you can't better cable. Home plugs are a better solution than wifi but even these can have problems.

I'm using Ethernet for what its worth, because my router happens to be next to the TV. If I couldnt, I would probably use homeplugs, or maybe even Wifi via the dongle.

HD iplayer only requires 3.5Mb so either are ample.

I do. One long lead to where my TV is then use a switch to connect to all my AV gear.

You can add me to that list. I have a wired Foxsat HDR next to a wireless Blu-Ray. No problem with iPlayer on the Foxsat but it just won't work properly on the Blu-Ray despite a supposedly good connection.

so to clarify, my issue isnt that I cannot play HD, I can, but only if I start the program from within the player.

If I start the program as you demonstrated in your video, I get the standard definition stream, as you did in the video.

Is this not exactly the same behaviour as you are seeing?

If I follow your example, and start the video from the EPG, the HD toggle has no effect. On or Off, I get SD.

Pretty sure I get HD after selecting the icon, the box confirms HD and the picture quality is much better. New video uploading (should be about 20 mins), links will be the same.

how about if you enter the player app, go to settings, set quality to HD (there are three settings) then find a program you know is in HD, the BBC icon should appear tiny, and the HD toggle on the bar which appears at the bottom of the screen when the program starts will show HD = ON

If you wait for the new video you can see it says HD on.

Thanks. I noticed the "Now viewing in HD" banner, I don't recall seeing that at home, but I cannot test until this evening.

Assuming that the stream is actually HD, and doesnt just claim to be, then I have a problem that you do not, but I cannot understand how.

If you compare that video ( the example you recorded) with the same program launched from inside the iplayer app, and play an SD version and HD version as a test, is there no doubt that the video launched from the EPG is actually in HD?

yes, for me, I only ever get SD from the guide. HD works only from within the iplayer

Finally spoke to someone at Humax about the On Demand issue Im having. He was completely unaware of any issues. I have reported it, if you are also seeing the issue Id recommend you let Humax know so they start investigating the issue.

By HD Repassac means BBC-HD not the simulcast BBC1-HD which is a mixture of upscaled SD and true HD.

Yes I have tried BBC HD, which is exclusively HD content, and BBC One HD, for programs which I know are available in HD.

I just cannot get it to play the HD stream, unless Im in the standalone player.
