Only skimmed the comments but maybe HD is determined by the broadband speed on launching the on-demand service? Just guessing at this stage though, it was default to SD on my review unit.

interesting, so do you have a retail unit which now provides HD from the guide / EPG ?

Mines 20Mbps Virgin which a test confirms, so can't really see that being a reason.

Ok so I watched your second video and followed the exact steps.

The great British bake-off started playing in SD. The HD toggle on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen was OFF, but I was able to select ON (did you also do this, wasnt clear from the video). When I selected ON the banner appeared saying it was being viewed in high definition, same as your video.

Thing is, it didnt actually switch to HD. THe video was SD, and the stream doesnt change when this toggle is changed. I cannot tell from your video if it was HD on your screen or not, but I suspect it actually wasnt. Did you try going into settings in the iplayer and setting the quality to HD permanently, then playing that same program from within the player? Can you see a difference then? As I said, when it is truly playing in HD, the BBC logo in the upper left corner is tiny, much smaller that on the SD version.

Iv took mine back to Currys. It didn't feel very reassuring when speaking to humax they weren't even aware of any issues. Regarding the streaming all he had to say was it works on our box here so couldnt say why I was having issues.

I like the idea but the box needs to be quicker, almost to many animations trying to make the interface slick but they just get in the way. I'm sure Humax will sort it out, but for now I'll stick with my SKY HD box for a couple more months.

BBC iPlayer launches on Sky next Tuesday and it uses progressive download so HD will be available regardless of BB speed.

Doesn't seem like iPlayer will be available to Freesat from Sky users though, if Sky's own website is to be believed.

Is this what they mean by 'no subscription required for BBC iPlayer'?

Quote:
“ What Sky TV subscription do I need to get Catch Up?

Catch Up is available with any Sky TV package (including Sky Entertainment), and to standalone Sky+ subscribers.

You are able to watch Catch Up programmes from channels you get as part of your TV package, for example you need to subscribe to the Sky Sports channels to watch Catch Up from Sky Sports.

If you are a standalone Sky+ subscriber - meaning that you don’t subscribe to any Sky TV packages but you do subscribe for Sky+ functions - you will be able to get BBC iPlayer.”

Looks like <FREE TIME> could still be the only way to access catchup tv on subscription free satellite.

I think you correctly made the point before that a subscription is needed as the HDD is used for progressive download.

The quote confirms this, but they do say no subscription. Strange.

Well to fair to them (and I am not always so generous ) they actually say:

*Sky TV subscription not required for BBC iPlayer content

A Sky+ subscription is not a TV subscription...

Yes I changed to HD prior to it playing. The G2 server may well be different to the one you get by direct access hence the dog size. Will check further tommorow.

Looks HD to me, switching back to SD looks significantly worse, I can check the bitrate tommorow from my router and will compare the two. I have HD on a Humax Freeview box so I can check that as well and on a PS3.

No it's not, but their wording on the adverts has not unsurprisingly led many to believe that at the very least, iPlayer would be available to FSFS users and that doesn't seem to be the case.

It's a shame but ultimately free catchup tv availability is just another feather in the cap for Freesat over FSFS.

Yes the same for me. I am sure it will be sorted out in due course. I don't have any problems stuttering iplayer play back or needing to press pause then play. I had one crash having an iplayer test tonight and had to unplug it to unlock it. Was recording ITV HD at the time. I have FTTC Internet very stable.

Machine sounds a little gurgley.. Anyone else got a simmering soup noise?

Other than that pretty good.

I have a samsung smart tv that does most things except buffer and record (on its own) so am a bit spoilt.

Anyone got an idea on how to get to Favourites quickly. Think I go guide - List - up - select

What is it then?

It's a subscription for the PVR feature... for FSFS users... it doesn't give you any extra TV channel content. But it will now allow access to catch-up TV.

You are correct, having checked the PS3, HD FOX T2 and the HDR1000s it's not the HD version despite it saying it is. Will try and found out what's going on.

I'm been waiting for this to be released and have now noticed that there is a white version to be released. I email Humax Sales Support with regard to a potential release date, and they told me that there are no plans for a white 1000s. Is there any official line on a white version? Wondering if I will be waiting forever and should just get the black...

Couldn't say for sure, but pretty sure whoever it was that took this Photo was told by a Humax rep that it was the WiFi model to be released at a later date.

The white one was shown at the launch at IBC and a poster confirmed 1TB and built in WiFi.

1TB been delayed 24 hours...just had an email from Humax:

Unfortunately it looks as though the stock has been delayed by a day coming into us.

We are hoping to receive them in tomorrow.

Once we have a confirmation they are definitely coming in, we will arrange a delivery date with you.
