I agree, one of my all time favourite albums, stunning lyrics and vocals.

An album that deserves to be called a classic.

If I recall right she made music before, nevertheless without success, but than she got raped and she put all her energy in this masterpiece. (this will always remind me of one episode of MTV, she got a special by that time of the release and the interviewer asked her about fashion and boys and I thought by myself **** MTV)

Similariites with Alanis she split with her boyfriend and got assaulted and than she created Jagged little pil.

Her rape was mid 80's after she moved to LA - she did commercials

and small gigs. She went formed Y Kant Tori Read and made her late 80's big hair rock album which is actually good - you can hear the Tori of later in Cool On Your Island. The video for The Big Picture is classic

The period was less than fulfilling and after being humiliated at an industry party after YKTR was a big flop (the industry bigwigs were laughing at her to her face!) she then had a mini breakdown and retreated to her piano and wrote about who SHE WAS.
So yeah the rape was before and not a reason for LE - although it obviously was the basis for Me & A Gun

You see the tension in the rendition of Me & a Gun at Jools

Love that performance - still a huge fan of Tori - but prefer 92-02 to 02-12. My trilogy of Tori top albums are Under The Pink/Boys For Pele/Scarlet's Walk....LIttle Earthquakes comes 4th or 5th alternating with To Venus & Back.
I do think Night of Hunters is her best album since Scarlet though and am looking forward to Gold Dust after hearing the new Flavor. I'm not normally a fan of singers "re-imagining" their own material but after seeing Marianne on the tracklisting...

I love LE but I feel a lot of her other output after that, which I think is better, often gets overlooked.

That performance is haunting. It's like she has to cut herself off from everything else.

I love Tori, Under the pink is my favourite album of hers though.

This is one of my favourite albums of all time, and my favourite Tori album. (FTCH and TVAB are my other favourites.) I love every song on it - although I admit sometimes I skip Happy Phantom. I absolutely love 'Winter', 'Crucify', 'Girl'...and although it seems to be one of the least popular with fans, I really love 'China' as well.
