How on earth can Corrie justify half the actor's acting?!
Corrie is making very cringey viewing at the moment which is a shame because it was once my favorite soap!
We have got abysmal actors/characters like; -Sean - What the actual hell? - Sophie - Her attempts at acting make me cringe - Ryan - Same as above - Tracey - < That face just sums it up!- Sunitta - Why Corrie just why? - Ken - For a veteran I am disgusted by his performances! - Deidre - I just feel embarrassed for her really |

I don't think the acting's the problem, I think both Corrie and Eastenders have very strong cast lists at the moment (although I agree about Sophie and Seans acting skills.) I think it's the writing that's the problem and the material the actors are being given, rather than the actors themselves.

The thing is with Corrie once you take away Leanne, Carla and Peter well then the standard drops by a mile! Those three carry Corrie at times and rightfully so because they are in an elite club of the best actors on Soap! it just amazes me how the likes of Dev, Sean, Tracey and Sophie are still in employment they have got to be some of the worst peformers ive ever seen!

No the acting is the problem! And also the writing!
i know i may be slated for this, but i would add Rita to that list ( i agree with that Sean, Sunita, Ken, Ryan are not good actors, also Dev and Rob are crap ). I love Deirdre and i dont mind Sophie. |

Writing needs to improve dramatically though and I think that's the main problem. I think all the soaps are having problems at the moment. I used to watch all four religiously, now I can take or leave Corrie, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale and Eastenders is the only one I never miss. I'm not a fan of the new Ryan either, I think his return storyline is a joke. I think characters need to stop "fighting for their lives" in hospital too. First Tina, then Tracey, now Sophie's going to end up in hospital again apparently. How many more are going to go through the same boring plots? |

The writing in Corrie is at least not so bad that you'd see scripts with incorrect apostrophes.

IMHO:
DEV is the worst corrie actor EVER. At least sean brings a bit of humor (even if it is for the wrong reasons. xD) Sunita is a terrible actress and is given equally dire storylines.. and is stuck with an equally appalling actor. |

Actually I think Shobna Gulati is a fine actress. I've enjoyed her in other shows. It's just that with this current storyline with Karl, I find it a big change in her character and the storyline's not working,
I may get slated for this, but every soap has their characters that people hate and characters that people love. Alot of people hate Sean on this forum or Dev, but others in the UK and Canada (and other places) react positively to them. Same for Eastenders Emmerdale or Hollyoaks. Honestly I do think that every soap needs to have at least a few hammy actors on the show to balance out the cast. I mean every one has different tastes and every actor a soap will hire will have a different reaction amongst the audiences. Also, in this present time, the days of missing gnomes and illicit French lessons are a thing of the past. I feel that in this present day and age, soap producers practice the mantra "The bigger the better" which is why you see a lot of crashes, explosions, torrid affairs et al. The audience is changing like it or not. All this to say that I still love the show, bad actors and all. (i've got my list) I am not going to abandon it now. however, I do understand where people are coming from and they have a right to their opinion even if I don't fully agree with it. |

I once saw an interview with James Masters (Spike in Buffy & Angel) and he stated that the key to great acting is great writing.
His is especially true in a soap opera where there is no time for rehearsals and the actors have to just turn up and say their lines and then go away. In fact if you look at Buffy & Angel you will see the point I am trying to make. While they were on these series the cast looked outstanding. However once those series ended the cast either disappeared into obscurity or ended up on another TV series. None of them have reached the heights that I expected them to. So I would say that the problem is a combination of the writing & the shooting schedule. Having said that I do feel sorry for the writers. It can’t be easy to come up with original stories for a soap that has been on air for over 50 years. |

I agree with the people on the OP's list. I'd also add Chesney.
I think Anne Kirkbride is good at playing the comedic Deirdre but her "serious" acting makes me cringe.

How could you have forgotten the worst culprit of them all, Rob?! I cannot take to him as a character because he's so appalling!

You beat me to it. Still, I always enjoy reading illiterate posts on DS from posters complaining about the quality of writing...
I also doubt the OP is a professional writer for a prime-time soap opera, so that point is also invalid. On-topic, I think the problem is we've had a lot of focus on some of the weakest cast/actors over the summer. And yes, there has been a pathetic emphasis on the whole 'fighting for their lives' in hospital during PC's tenure. It was boring the first time. |

What wasted posts. The OP takes the time to create a detailed opening post to justify their opinion, and all you two can do is pick at one little grammar mistake. If you've got nothing constructive to say, say nothing at all.
What a ludicrous overreaction to a bit of fun. |

Can't believe Rob wasn't top of your list and written in huge capital letters!! He is truly abysmal, one, flat line delivery style, just awful.

I'm going to defend Jimmi Harkishin as I think he does a good job and to be fair even though Anthony Cotton is portraying himself, he still adds comedy to the show. I admit his acting is a bit dodgy when he is acting out serious storylines, but for comedy he's quite funny

I agree with all on the OP's list. However the one that I really cannot bear to watch is Michelle Keegan as Tina. To me she is worse than Rob.

Sophie is awful isn't she? How she is as one of Corrie's 'Key Players' is bizarre. Is it simply because she is playing a lesbian?
I'd agree with Sean, Sunita and Ryan. Ken isn't good either. I'd also add Rob, Kirk and that one who plays Marcu's new boyfriend. |
