The one s is a better phone by far. The desire x won't be much cheaper.

Assuming they do upgrade the Desire S with ics this doesn't look like it is offering much extra. The Desire brand used to be their flagship product, but now they are using it on a device with lower spec than the One V? This seems am odd move.
I'll certainly be taking a look at it when it comes out. |

I have had the Desire S coming up to a year now and depending where I am it can suffer from signal drop outs.
I have seem my sisters Iphone 3gs get 2 or 3 bars out of her 5 where I have been lucky to even get 1 bar out of the 4. and we are both on 02. Dont think I would get another Desire if I get a new mobile next year. Darren |

BTW, I've not noticed any reception problems with my Desire S. |

This looks a really nice phone and the specs are better than the one V. I have found it hard to find a smaller screen phone that I really liked and if this had come out a couple of months ago I would have got this. But i have bit the bullet and talked myself into getting the HTC one S after finally seeing it in person so a bit to late. Good Luck in what you decide hope it as good as it looks.

I agree that for someone looking for a smartphone with a 4" screen, this looks interesting. My wife would definitely have looked at this phone, but like you, she has now taken out a new 24 month contract with a One S (she previously had a Legend and the battery was beyond dead, so she couldn't wait). I still have the option to get a Desire X as I'm out of contract, but I'm waiting to see what the Desire S is like with ics. I've already reduced my tariff now that I'm out of contract, and the Desire S is an amazingly good phone even with Gingerbread. |

Desire X is Dual core One V is Single Core the Desire X also has a bigger screen 4.0 - 3.7 and more Ram 768 -512 the only thing I can see that is better on the one V is the video recording |

I'm surprised I hadn't noticed that before (I haven't used the front facing camera in 18 months of owning the Desire S, but it seems a backwards step to remove it). I'm also disappointed in only a 5Meg camera when the One S and One X have 8Meg. One review I read said the Desire X was quite laggy, so I will definitely want to play with one before buying. At the moment, I'm still thinking I'll end up with a One S, but if the Desire S gets ics soon, I might hang on and see what else comes out. I wasn't aware the Desire X was planned until this week. |

The Desire X is a backwards step in many ways, doesn't have a front facing camera. Does not have a higher screen res which means the screen will be more pixelised. Battery is more or less the same. Plus it doesn't even support HSPA+, max download speed is 7.2mbps which is the same as the iPhone 3GS.
Its worse phone in many regards and i have no idea why HTC are hoping to get away with releasing phones like the Desire C (worse than wildfireS) and Desire X (rebranded Desire S with dual core) at almost double the price of it's counterparts. The Desire C was launched at £170. You could pick up a HTC Wildfire S (same phone) for under £100. Thank god some chinese manufactures (yes i know HTC is taiwanese) are trying to release good spec handsets at the price they should be. (Huawei, Acer, ZTE etc...) Look at the G300, G330,G600, Grand X, Gallant and Ascend D Quad. they're well priced for the spec. HTC Other phones are alright but they've lost it since they released the One Series. |

I'm not sure where I read that it was lower spec than the One V, I read several reviews this morning, but now I can't find it, or remember what they were referring to!

The update has been out for around a week now. I doubt vodafone will do a ota update.
How did you make sure all your network settings were correct after upgrading to the generic ROM? |

Bars are fairly meaningless. I'd be more interested in how many dropped calls each of you get, and where you can get HSDPA compared to dropping back to 3G or GSM.
I'm not saying the Desire will win, just pointing out that counting bars doesn't give a good comparison. BTW, I've not noticed any reception problems with my Desire S. Even had no bars earlier in the year when I went to the Pitlochry area for the weekend on 2g when others had 1 bar using the same network on 2g. This has made me think that I may not get another Desire when I replace the my Desire S next year. |

I was hoping for a ota update, Vf did one for 2.3, but they haven't made any promises.
How did you make sure all your network settings were correct after upgrading to the generic ROM? They just came through via text message a minute or so after the 1st boot. I only ever had to enter the settings myself on my original desire but on my desire s they have come through automatticly what ever network Im on. They didnt do a ota for gingerbread for the desire so I doubt they will for the s and it has to be done this way because the partation changes so thats why it has to be a clean install. A good thing is that you will lose the vodafone branding. |

I'm 99% sure Voda did do an ota for the 2.2 to 2.3 update (I kept the branding and the rubbish "vodafone music shop" app). I've downloaded the RUU. When I'm feelng brave, I might give it a go! |
