the slade classic. i read something somewhere about it getting to no 1 years ago in something like june in somewhere like norway.it rocks ! i like the music itself and not the fact its a xmas song. has there been a better one since 1973?
the pogues/kirsty mcoll - fairytale of new york,is ok too( did anyone see shane mcgowan on the frank skinner show a few weeks ago? lets just say he likes a drink or two ] |

My favourite two Xmas Songs are "I with it could be Xmas Everyday" by Wizzard and The Pogues - Fairytale of New York. Happy memories of standing around in a big circle at the end of the college Xmas bash with all your mates, arms around each other all staggering drunkenly an singing, it truly is Xmas lol

One of my favourite Christmas songs is: I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake.
Mind you, I love all the songs they play when you are doing your pressie shopping. Slade, Wizard etc. It really get's me in the festive mood.

Top 3 for me:
1. Pogues: Fairytale Of NY 2. Slade: Merry Christmas Everybody 3. Band Aid: Do They Know It's Christmas? (original) Also like Gary Glitter's, Wizzard's, John Lennon's, Paul McCartney's and Mud's Xmas songs. |

Step Into Christmas by Elton John - one of my favourites. Regretfully, the rest of my favourites are all played to death, by the time I'm halfway through my advent calender I've had enough of them.

when u work in a shop at this time of year it makes you cringe everytime you think of a christmas song. I had to listen to the same cd for 8 and a half hours last saturday. But my personal favs are fairytale of new york and spaceman came travelling by chris de burgh.

agree with wezzo's 1,2,3 mind.. the pogues just does it for me that lil bit more. don't agree with the john lennon runner up tho.. presuming you're talking about Imagine, i find it probably the worst song ever written. (oh thats so gonna win me some friends on here... i also hated goldeneye on the n64 *gulp*) |

The most recorded Christmas song is apparently "Silent Night" but I can't remember anybody having a big hit with that as a single... can anyone?
The version sung on last week's Songs of Praise by Aled Jones & Hayley Westenra was rather nice but they didn't release it as a single as was rumoured a while back, only as a track on Aled's new album. Oh, there's a nice video of it here. (8 MB but it soon streams) Last edited by d'@ve : 15-12-2004 at 18:15. |

Oh, there's a video of it (Songs of Praise, at the top) and "Silent Night" follows Hayley's "Mary did You Know?") here. The S of P version is better than the Christmas Mania version. |
