I'm not a big fan of zombie films as a standalone genre, when they are used as a setting for a comedy is when I feel they work best ie. Shaun of Dead, Zombieland.

I do enjoy zombie games however with or without comedy elements.

What's The Awakening series?

Apparently for Dead Set they decided fresh zombies would be fast, and then they'd slow down as they decayed a bit.

I don't mind fast or slow zombies either. Although they've lost their higher reasoning skills, I don't see them as being completely brain dead. After all, attacks to the head are the only sure way of stopping them, so their brains are still active. And their muscles still work the same.

Although I'm not a fan of the first "28 Days Later" film, I did think it's approach was a bit more realistic than most, and hence more believable. Of course that means the threat is quite low. It's hard to see how infected like that could ever get properly started. They can't travel any faster than a run, so it would take days for them to affect the whole country, and we'd have plenty of time to prepare.

I think they are fantastic. Second one being my favourite.

Oh, I see. Yes I like the Underworld films too. I don't understand why the second one is an 18 and the first a 15. There is one sex scene, but the violence and gore seem much the same to me.

I haven't seen the last one yet.

I should have waited for a reply before I trawled through IMDb. There are a ton of shorts with the title The Awakening.

A flying zombie would surely have to fight a flying shark.

Personally I quite like them. I think a lot have tended to follow a narrative that's all too similar to 'Night of the Living Dead' and its sequels. I don't think I'd enjoy another one in a similar fashion to '28 days later' either. However, there are plenty that don't follow the same sort of infected world and the number of uninfected being trapped somewhere sort of story.

[REC] is in my opinion one of the best horror films of recent times. It's just so damn eerie.

Hardly surprised to see this absolute crazy flick mentioned on the thread within the first few posts. It has to be in the top 10 Zombie films of all time. It's definitely one of my favourite black comedies.

I first saw it on late night Channel 4 after having known it by reputation and I found some of it so funny that I went out and bought it on video the following day.

It certainly isn't banal. Lots of zombie films go along the premise that some virus/radioactive contamination from space/voodoo has caused the dead to walk again yet in 'Braindead' we have the 'outbreak' because a completely nutty and controlling old woman spies on her son taking a girl to the local zoo and gets bitten by a rabid rat-monkey.

The scenes with the mother when her mate from the local WI equivalent arrives for dinner (and that gross scene with the custard while they're eating) still have me in stitches.

the scene where he takes the baby in the pram to the park is one of my favourite bits.

One of the things I like about the Resident Evil series is how each sequel was different. The first showed the initial outbreak in The Hive, a confined space. The second opens it up to cover an entire city and is more of an action movie. By the third it covers the entire world and we have a kind of road-trip movie. However, after that it's not clear where they can go. The fourth movie was the kind of siege situation you felt has been over-done. I've not seen the fifth one yet.

the thing I didn't like about them is that they strayed a long way away from the storylines of the games, but then they seem to change a bit with each game these days

That scene is hilarious too. I'm definitely going to dig my DVD out this week. One of the more bizarre scenes that tickles me every time I watch it is when Lionel's mother is being embalmed and the machine has gone into overdrive. Oh and the exchange between Paquita and Lionel when they discover the fate of Paquita's alsatian, Fernando, is just brilliant.

"Your mother ate my dog!"

You might like Dead Set then. It was a TV series with people isolated in a Big Brother-style reality show as a Zombie outbreak happens in the outside world. Pretty amusing.

The Underworld films are OK, but not a patch on Buffy (TV show of course). And i think we can all agree on how an encounter between Buffy and Edward would end.

Warewolves are dull - the only warewolf movie I liked was the hammer horror one from the early 60s & that's because I saw it when I was about 6.

The only ones that worked for me aren't classically zombie films:

Shaun of the Dead
Undead (great fun little Aussie film)
28 Days Later
Dellamorte Dellamore (a.k.a. Cemetery Man)
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Dead at the Manchester Morgue
Resident Evil (first one)
Tokyo Zombie
The Guardsman
Fido
[REC]
Zombieland
Pontypool
Slither
I Walked with a Zombie
Versus (better watch when a bit drunk)
I forgot the title... Released last year. People in a small American town got infected.

Some on that list aren't technically zombie films, but do have a zombie-like element.

[REC] is brilliant and genuinely scary.

Not really a movie, but Dead Set was really good too.

I think there should be one with zombies on scooters and bicycles.

The only one I really liked was The Serpent And The Rainbow. That was quite unsettling.

I want to know how the zombie hoard decide whether to zombify their victim. Some people get ripped to pieces and others dont and turn into zombies.

The way i see it is that if ur alone and run into a big group you will probably be eaten till theres nothing left,if u are with a group the zombies will focus on the group rather than that one individual, lets say u run into a group of 20 by urself,20 zombies will devour you in no time, not giving much chance for re-animation,a group of 5 survivours run into the same group of 20 zombies and die, thats 5 zombies per person,it will take prob take longer to eat and re-animation is more likely plus theres a chance that with all the running around the zombie will leave the body for a fresh chase! i think about these things too much lol
