Interesting article in The Sun today by George Entwistle about how he sees BBC developing, particularly in television but the message is it will be across all platforms. He also has some interesting gossip from Dr Who and Strictly.

5.5m for Doctor Who just goes to show that it benefits from a strong lead-in (following the Strictly premiere last week, it got 6.5m), which Total Wipeout does not provide.

'The Power of Three' was also a bit of a filler episode, building up to next week's exit for Amy and Rory... though I have to say I really enjoyed it and it reminded me of a Russell T Davies episode. Lovely scene between Amy and the Doctor chatting against the backdrop of London at night.

Next week's finale deserves higher than 5.5m but I can't see it happening, sadly, owing to the weak Total Wipeout lead-in and the clash with the bloated X Factor.

Total Wipeout has been one of my favourite TV guilty pleasures over the last few years, but I can see nothing from the last couple of runs to suggest that the BBC have made the wrong decision in bringing it to an end.

So barely 8m for TXF, maybe even high 7s once we unaggregate! :O

What's the official excuse this week then?

That is low for XF, my dreams of a 14m peak for tonights show is well out of reach

It's going back to how it was at the start of the auditions, which picked up a bit, and now it's back to those levels again. In that case, I expect tonights show to peak at at least 10m.

As I said yesterday. Let's just blame the Olympics.

It was quite sunny?

Didn't it clash with Doctor Who? Maybe a lot of people didn't bother switching over after it finished.

Also, it usually takes a dip for bootcamp.

However, Simon Cowell is shown tonight showing the judges which categories they'll be mentoring, that could possibly, just possibly, bring in some high ratings and boost the average a bit.

The weather? People were busy gritting their driveways and propping up their fences following the Daily Express headlines of 85mph winds and Arctic weather sweeping in from the north

Mel B aside, TXF is incredibly dull this year. It would seem that people are realising that.

I wonder what the later ROB got.

What was the share for XF?

And does anyone think it will pick up a bit with Simon Cowell telling the judges their categories, as well as Cheryl helping Gary at judges houses?

On a cold pitch dark autumn night a month after the Games ended, I'd love to know the twisted ITVista logic for those!

Simon Cowell will spend 2 minutes on screen on a phone telling a bunch of dull no hope judges what catagory they got, why on EARTH would any extra viewers tune in?

That said with it being Sunday it will at least bust through 8 million

Are ITV going to blame the massively increased competition?

Because it's Simon Cowell, ratings were at it's best when he was on it judging The peak will at least come at that point.

Low, low, low, everything seems low!!!

Where have all the viewers gone?

I want Doctor Who to be getting 7 million, it deserves it!

It was freezing last night so quite how anyone can say the weather has shored down X Factor baffles me. It's still winning the night by a large margin, but it's by no means the powerhouse it was 2 years ago now.

Funny, tonight it will be Downton Abbey propping X Factor up, not the other way round!! To be honest XF could do with a Corrie lead in as well, I have no idea why ITV aren't parachuting an episode there on a permanent basis to shape the weekends again. Simon Shaps really was the biggest idiot as head of scheduling at ITV, making some of the most illogical decisions ever and destabilising the entire schedule. Stupid numpty.

Dancing on Ice should go BACK on Saturday and Corrie should go BACK on Sunday. End of! Just cut that 8.30pm edition on Friday out. Better to have a slightly weaker Friday for a much stronger Sunday...

Overall though it's time for ITV to move away from reality and back into drama and factual. They're doing that anyway with all the new dramas that are airing and upcoming and they have a fairly good season of documentaries though there is work to do. Soon these reality shows will be dying out and seen as a fad of the Noughties like the gameshow era of old.

It's all trends and waves kids.
