XF could do with the Downton lead-in, and the second part of judges houses always rates better than the first (probably due to the individual performances), so what would you predict for both tonight?

Really? Its a 90 minute show how will people know when to tune in? The peak will come at 8.55 as people tune back in for the start of DA

Most people will stick around, the others (the extra millions) will probably know from Twitter. But the lot that watched yesterday already know.

Thanks you for clarifying this.

Yet more proof that ITV executives do not have an original idea in their heads. The channel has worked with Bill Gallagher, so it would know exactly what his other commitments would have been.

Also, The Paradise is an adaptation of an Emile Zola novel ... so how on earth can it be an imitation of Mr Selfridge? The other way round, surely ...?

Surely if people watch because they see it on Twitter it will be too late he'd have already been on and gone...?

I think you're putting too much faith in people giving a shit about Cowell, he's not even judging so there will be no opinions just him saying "hello x you have the girls"

Well, we'll see tomorrow morning how the ratings fare. The whole business with the individual performances, final 24 and the categories could boost the average still.

Oh i have no doubt tonights show will rate better, i just don't think it will be because of a fleeting appearance from the Lord & Master

Why is everything rating low this year? Since the olympics soaps have recovered, but not as much as i thought, last monday the soaps had some solid ratings and then on a cold dark friday evening, corrie was below 7 million. I am really really baffled. Emmerdale is not long off its anniversary and posting mediocre figues. This time of year it should be hitting around 7 million. Corrie is on queue, apart from when its drops like it did friday for some reason.

I think the summer tv and sports events have had some effect, i thought this might happen for some reason.

Last years ratings weren't particularly amazing though tv wise.

I have a Friday rating for you. Baggage on Channel 4 was watched by 1m including +1. About 2m too high.

It did well to get 0.9m (inc +1) for its rapid repeat at 19:15 last night then.

I'm not sure why the Olympics would still be having an effect. I just see this year as the latest in an overall decline in ratings - the figures might be artificially bumped up because bbc1 was getting over 10m primetime averages for the 2 weeks of the Olympics but the decline, as you point out is still there.

So TXF has recorded its lowest bootcamp figure since 2007, when a two-parter split around Ant and Dec's SNT achieved 6.8m/28% at 18:05 (directly against Strictly) and 7.2m/33% at 20:30.

Perhaps the Olympics may have opened peoples minds that there is more to life than watching stunt-driven reality shows?

Must worry ITV though; the shows taken off quite spectacularly against X Factor.

Looks like Mr Selfridge is being held for round about Xmas. Time for re-runs of Are You Being Served ?

Honestly Strictly didn't matter. The only places where the show gained significantly were in the +44 group. Not the target audience; it was actually basically stable in all other age groups; little difference. I'd argue its not the best match for Strictly and another show would have held onto the older audience better (such as Merlin).

To 'Who' overall Strictly is more a vain bump; it looks nice but overall means little. As seen by the fact they don't switch on the next week. Don't get to obsessed with the lead in - and Wipeout is a decent lead in (especially compared to recent years).

“'The Power of Three' was also a bit of a filler episode, building up to next week's exit for Amy and Rory... though I have to say I really enjoyed it and it reminded me of a Russell T Davies episode. Lovely scene between Amy and the Doctor chatting against the backdrop of London at night.”

Not to go on a rant about last nights episode but I think this is unfair to RTD

Yes, a 133%+ rise in both viewership and share in its second week is quite impressive. I've still got last week's recorded so I don't know if it's actually any good but word-of-mouth must have helped it achieve such a good (and unexpected) increase.

Yep, I think, and hope, this is it. People have been watching real drama with hard-working dedicated people, not a contrived mess.

To be fair though it's only a couple of million that have turned off, but I'm hoping they'll stay away.

Factor that in with the soaps being a couple of million down on what you'd expect for September and perhaps we're seeing a shift away from mindless spoonfed TV

Isn't the reason it rated lower last night was because it was Boot Camp. I thought it was established that that always rated lower.

Sir Brucie will be chomping at the bit, anxious to get started after seeing last night's figures. He'll be smelling blood.

TV viewing habits seem to have changed this year. As you said was a freezing cold night last night. Yet shows are rating less than in the summer.

What is on at 20:00 that could destroy The X Factor ratings tonight? Even the BBC News Channel is step up from The X Factor
