I'm surprised The X Factor hasn't really exploited product placement, I imagine due to the restrictions on junk food ads means that we can't have Pepsi cups on the judges table like they do in the US.

Has PP been in dramas or comedies yet apart from Hollyoaks, it seems like most PP deals are with light entertainment and daytime shows.

They could use diet drinks as Sky Living's Styled to Rock does (Diet Coke), but not regular because of the sugar content.

Sky's comedy Trollied has PP from Spontex (kitchen cleaning products).

It was meh but I didn't think it was as terrible as the US tv writers/critics would have you believe. There is definately worse sitcoms that have been picked up this season.
On the other hand The Mindy Project is completely over hyped by the same writers and is distinctly average imho.

I'm sure it's possible, it would only be cups anyway, I remember American Idol had Vitamin water cups in place of Coke Cups for some episodes although Vitamin Water is owned by Coca Cola so still in the family,

Electronics seems like a easy way to product place especially in The X Factor where the judges use their phones in the audtions and judges houses.

I believe for the BBC Live + 7 stats, they knock off a percentage (5%?) to account for partial viewings, based on separate audience research.

I imagine that BARB are taking ages to incorporate online catch-up because they need to look for ways to measure the exact portion of a programme watched on iPlayer (etc), and align the timings to the broadcasters' schedule logs, so that the averages can be calculated and added to the TV averages. They must already have done this with the catch-up-via-TV services available on Virgin Media and games consoles (and now Sky), but this would be easier as it would be done via the set-top box (whose PVRs they already monitor), I guess it would be similar to the practice of adding on a Sky Anytime showing on to the most recent linear airing as if it were PVR timeshift. They're now tinkering with PCs which must be more difficult.

Last Resort is premiering tonight on ABC at 8pm.

Fun fact copied from tvbtn: No shows in that timeslot have gone on to a second season since 2009.

Gulp.

For the live+7 numbers, they take the minutes watched in the same way as BARB do...

Thanks, yes you are correct - this is confirmed here.

The survey evidence is used to estimate the number of viewers - that was what I was remembering. That must be subject to significant margin for error - presumably BARB will use their 'people meter' (or a replacement gadget or piece of software) to ask who is watching.

What's the question? I'm surprised ITV2 didn't dump it earlier really once Simon quit, but I do this as more of a postiive move for 5* rather than just picking up yet another channels rejects.

5* though definately needs a new look - I assumed the rebranded Fiver idents would be a temporary thing but 18 months on they remain. Although 15 years on C5 is arguably still having to fight to be recognised as a channel in it's own right I think it does need to push it's family of channels a bit more.

Ironic they sign a deal to feature mobiles beginning in the show after the only reason to use mobiles (Simon calling the judges) has aired. Wonder if we'll see Louis tweeting throughout the show.

Thanks for the info, thats a hell of a lot for a soap that gets minuscule ratings compared to the British soaps, i can see Desmond dropping it when the deal runs out.

Spending £37.5 million a year just for Neighbours is a hellish amount out of the budget available for acquisitions and home grown productions. That amount could easily fund a primetime soap of their own and a few original drama productions.

I keep seeing different ratings for this, Attentional tweeted 1.6m earlier as well, do we know which one is correct?

I too took years to rewatch that final episode, because it really was the end, but it is worth a look because it really is superbly crafted and that musical ending, putting into action the events only spoken about earlier in the episode, was a work of genius.

It really irritates me that such a brilliant series, one of only a handful of comedies in the 20m club, is so seldom talked of and so underrated, despite being so widely adored and cherished at the time. Why do they never repeat it on mainstream channels (compare with Dad's Army, say).

Can we see some love for One Foot, please?

And the moral of the story is: don't take drugs, kids. It affects your ability to calculate TV ratings.

Noticed a Steve Williams in the writing credits for Russell Howard's Good News. It's not our Steve Williams, is it?

I guess Attentional is tape-checked as they supply data to DS; not sure if MG is; perhaps C4 Sales isn't (like ITVM's) and that explains the difference? I didn't watch it but it might have over-run, being a live broadcast.

Screenwatch includes +1, does Attentional's Twitter feed do so? Maybe it's:

Attentional (Twitter): 1.6m (10.3%) - exc +1, tape-checked?
C4 Sales: 1.78m - definitely inc +1, not tape-checked?
MediaGuardian: 1.9m (11.4%) - definitely inc +1, tape-checked?

God it's so confusing... I need some drugs after that!

EDIT: LOL @ iandb - my thinking exactly!

I hope American Idol does well for 5* they have some good shows that no one really pays attention to, they really need to pick up something big to give them a kickstart, They really could do with some BIG first run content, Go On doesn't have a UK home, if they were to promote it right, it could do rather well for them.

Speaking of which anyone know what Alphas got on Tuesday? Love that show, they better not drop it...

That's poor for Ramsey - and poor for C4 at 5pm. I'm sure Jamie Oliver's daytime series did much better. Then again though, 865k is the sort of figure I wouldn't be surprised to see Hotel GB get next week.

Come Dine with Me seems below par too - it's ridiculous it's now on every afternoon with a complete five episode re-run on C4 itself. Find to use it as schedule filler for More4/4seven, but on C4 itself is just lazy.

Channel 4 facing a tea-time double whammy from the quiz shows Pointless and The Chase. And Pointless might be stronger in 2013 when BBC1 drop the low low rated afternoon children's programmes.

Just wondering about The One Show rating last night - it didn't air on BBC1 in Scotland due to football, it aired on BBC2 at the same time there instead. Does the 3.81m include the Scottish viewers getting football?
