Well on 6 November last year the BBC chucked a repeat of
Michael McIntyre: Hello Wembley! up against the series 2 finale of
Downton and it managed to get 2.81m (10.1%) versus 10.46m (41.5%) for
DA. While that was
DA's highest-ever audience, McIntyre did not much do worse than Marr's 3.31m (12.4%) last weekend, particularly when you consider that
DA was 'just' 8.14m (30.7%). (All figures exc + 1)
I'd suggest another male-skewing comedy: something like
Would I Lie To You, preferably a new episode but it seems we only get an 8-part series each year and we've had that.
I don't see the logic in putting the junctions out of sync though; I don't think the early start would help Marr much: he'll probably end up at 9pm again.
EDIT: the only reason for BBC1 starting everything 30 mins earlier would presumably be so that
SCD can start at 6.50 and get the jump on
CS, as otherwise you'd have:
7.20
SCD
8.00
AR
9.00
Marr
10.00
News
versus:
7.00
CS
8.00
TXF
9.00
DA
10.00
News
but the early start would hurt
SCD potentially more than
Corrie having a 20-minute headstart, so I can't see it.
