Blimey. Casualty was battered last night. I suspect this will be the case for the next few X Factor polluted months.

Doctor Who... such unimpressive figures for a brilliant episode. It makes me despair for the state of the nation that more people watch the brain drain that is The X Factor than clever, original well acted drama (Doctor Who, not the dross that is Downton Abbey).

I'm still disappointed at XF. Nothing so far this series has made me go 'Phenominal figure!'. I hope that moment will come sometime this series.

Last year's equivalent episode:

11.8 million (11.0 excl ITV1+1) peak, 51% of total audience. Averaged 9.5m

Second episode last year:

Averaged 11.7m (42.5%), 12.1m (inc +1), peaked with 14.1m (inc +1)

But if we look at the second judges houses episode in 2010:

Averaged 14.1m (48.5%) and peaked at a massive 16.2m (~53%/54%)

So that will obviously not be beaten tonight, but is it possible for it to grow it's peak by a few million viewers in a DAY?

But we can be buoyed up by the fact that its timeshift will be massive - maybe it could be its largest yet.

Anyone with any logical explanation for Comedy World Cup being at 600k (2.5%), step forward now...

I don't think 8.7m over the course of 110 minutes is very impressive either. What's the chance it'll average at least 10-11m tonight?

XF and Doctor Who aside a poor set of ratings all round. Red or Black is surely dead now and Fool Britannia is a real turkey - they'd be better off just running an hour of YBF instead. Jonathan Ross actually did slightly better than last week in an even later slot interestingly. Casualty looks low and Million Pound Drop is on its last legs.


I think there may have been a few issues with C4's ratings last weekend that have clearly now been sorted. I wonder if the officials for last week will have Comedy World Cup doing well like it did in the overnights or not?

A few C4 shows had dodgy numbers last weekend and it'll be interesting to see how they do tonight. Also do we know if Deal or No Deal's ratings have returned to normal or not?

I think it'll average about 10m and peak at about 11.5m tonight (inc+1). There's no point in comparing it to last year and 2010 and saying how disappointing the numbers are because you're going to end up being very disappointed every weekend until the series is over. You have to look at it in the context of this series, and in that respect last night's rating was decent.

Comedy World Cup, went from 0.8m, then 1.9m, then back down to 0.6m.

I'd be surprised if we don't see a series high tonight however.

So what's going to be used as the lead-in for XF on a Sunday after The Chase Celebrity Specials finish?

I'm not disappointed.

This is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, and I'm not sure anyone will remotely care, but seeing as it stuck out in the top 100, Horrid Henry's 0.3m rating sticks out like a thumb in CITV's morning ratings...

Why shouldn't we compare XF with last year? Comparing y-o-y is what we do with most other shows so why should XF get a special dispensation just to spare the blushes of its fans?

Although really comparing with last year is kind of pointless since 2011 had problems and was way down on 2010. We should really be pretending 2011 was only slightly down on 2010 and then seeing where 2012 should be at it in relation to that.

Bottom line is these figures are underwhelming for the return of Chezza. It was only a couple of years ago people were lauding her as the new Diana.

XF didn't learn any lessons from 2011 which is why we're seeing these figures now. They kept the panel which proved unpopular with viewers, removed a colourful figure from it - the only one it had, and replaced her with dreary Nicole who makes SCD/BGT's Alesha Dixon look insightful.

The Celebrity Chase finishes next Sunday. There is an one hour Corrie for 14th October. After that I suspect it will be The Cube.

It will be The Cube, unfortunately, because The Cube's ratings are not deserving of the pre-X Factor slot. In fact, I think they should regular editions of The Chase on Sundays for a few weeks to see how it does.

I don't think it is overkill to do that for a few weeks, because it is very popular on weekdays, and having it on Sundays as well, won't do it any harm at all if it brings new viewers to the weekday editions.

If it gets higher than The Cube, why not?

Well, The Cube didn't do too well in the pre-X Factor slot last year, with the ratings hovering around 4m. Compared to 2010, when it was nearly 6m.

The Chase is getting the same, and I think they've only filmed one celebrity special for this year.

What's putting people off The Cube?

Underwhelming for Alan Carr considering the guests that were on, and terrible for MPD. They need to limit the amount of series they do each year, or just do Friday episodes. The Saturday episodes ain't gonna do much better either, especially up against XF. QI was pretty good, i believe it usually gets around 2 million.
