What stands out from the list is the diversity of programmes on CBBC: no one dominant title, at least in that week.


You mean people aged 16+? It's hard to say. We can't compare BARB consolidated top 10s with the figures I posted as the latter are overnights, of course. I suspect some shows get quite a reasonable 16+ audience, particularly among late teens, and also among older viewers for family shows such as Merlin, although I for one wouldn't have looked at the kids' section of the EPG on the offchance of finding that. (But people with kids might watch with them.)

Coincidentally the top programme on CITV in the BARB consolidated figures for the previous week was Horrid Henry with 228k, the same as for the number 1 in the Broadcast overnights list for the following week, but obviously the CITV figure would include timeshift and adult viewers.

Newsnight heavily dented on the Wednesday by the Paras OC, and no edition on Monday (or for Panorama) due to the bank holiday.

It's not often that Newsnight ratings are posted but from memory when I last saw them I thought they were around 1m. Presumably they tend to be lower in the summer - both because audiences as a whole are lower and also because there tends to be less "hard news" going on.

OAT: Chezza? Chezza? is that really what she is called now? her calls her Chezza? despite her association with ITV and Simon Cowell, even she is too pretty for that name.

No worries. I can probably do it for at least two more weeks, until my free trial runs out! Sometimes Broadcast skips sport and current affairs and has comedy and music/arts instead, but I'll post what I can.

A poster earlier today said that her album sales have been flagging since she left TXF, so you may be correct in inferring a financial motive.

from what I saw of her last video, things are not going well, filmed at Wimbeldon Studios, very cheap looking, I mostly only see Wimbeldon Studios used by artists without much profile, and not much money to spend.

Still if her sales are flagging, and X-Factor needs a boost, this is an agreeable way to solve both problems with one stone. Wonder if next year, one of the other female judges will be dropped, and Cheryl given her old job back.

That or she can get into another car crash with head coach of The Voice Does Mrs Will.I.Am know about all the time he spends with her?

Just catching up on this week’s ratings as I've been away for the last 5 days.

Monday: Corrie stormed ahead of EE with a gap of 1.35m (exc +1/BBC3 repeat). That's a huge gap for a Monday. Not sure what happened to EE there but to be less than 7m in September isn't great when both Corrie's were at 8m. Emmerdale low also (and from the looks of it - has been all week). This isn't boding well for next month’s big 40th Anniversary. ITV are going to have to do some serious marketing to get these figures up. I think 9m should be possible for the live episode. A Mother's Son did better than I expected (5m inc +1) opposite NT's 6.9m. That's a pretty decent result for ITV I think especially considering the September heat wave we've had this week. NT should timeshift to just shy of 8m I would have thought.

Tuesday: EE bounced back over the 7m mark whilst Emmerdale rumbled on with another sub 6m rating. I wonder if the Paralympics are harming it?! A Mother's Son did very well to maintain most its audience in the Tuesday night flop-zone and even beat off Accused. GBBO continues to astonish. Is it taking viewers away from Holby City which seems to be struggling of late?

Wednesday: So the Wednesday Corrie switch has finally happened with zero promotion and it only goes and scores 7.5m (inc +1). That's a pretty decent result considering it hasn't occupied that slot on a regular basis since July 2009. I always thought it would settle back in fine based on the one-off Wednesday showings over the last few years. And it has. That must be a relief for ITV. Now Dallas. Did a little worse than I expected but not hugely. That breakdown (thanks Dancc) was very stable indeed though - so hopefully it can retain this audience for the remaining 9 episodes. I'm yet to watch it too so can't comment if it was good or not. However, it does go up against Grand Designs next week so that could cause it a few problems possibly?!

Thursday: First Emmerdale at 6m did OK - but the second dipped to 5.6m. I wonder if no Corrie at 8.30pm is going to harm the second showing now? The Corrie Years didn't do that well. The Bletchley Circle did worse than I expected but I didn't bank on 6m+ watching the Paralympics. They should have waited a week and launched it next week. This could harm it for the rest of its run. Not sure that's the best slot for it either especially as it could have had a 7m+ Corrie lead-in.

As for the DW overnight/official ratings talk that seemed to rumble on several days after the first overnight rating of 6.4m was released. Everyone knows it timeshifts massively. The series averages have been extremely stable since the revival. Nothing to worry about at all. Yes - it would be nice if more watched it on the night - but it’s not the case. End of discussion.

have we had the Doctor Who, and X-Factor official's yet?

We won't get last Saturday's figures in consolidated form until Monday, unless Mike Teevee gives us a spoiler tomorrow - normally it's Monday now though. Trickytree might be able to give us an update on timeshifts for both so far this week though.

According to a post on the 6th on the DW Ratings thread, Asylum Of The Daleks had reached 8.015m at that point (presumably not including iPlayer stats).

And the Miranda episode was being shown for the sixth time!

Yeah I saw that. I think was was up to a certain point midweek so the final rating could be 8.3m/8.4m.

Does anyone know whens the last time a TV show apart from Strictly beat XFactor head to head? Because if the Paralympics Closing Ceremony beats XFactor tomorrow, it will be a big achievement and first time in ages XF has failed to win its slot [apart from Strictly].

And as I added in a late edit, that figure won't include iPlayer stats.

So the final figure could well be pushing upwards of 10 million.

BARB include iPlayer viewing via a set-top box such as Virgin Media's and also games consoles I believe (and Sky are soon to integrate iPlayer into their box). PC viewing is some way off being recorded due to the technical challenges, including aligning the timings; I have read that BARB are looking into it actively though.

As we know the BBC already include iPlayer in their Live+7 stats.

Any ratings for the Dallas repeat last night

The Mail yesterday suggested that the hot new music reality format likely to be heading here from the US is one where amateur songwriters compete to try to get popular artists to take on their new track.

Has this aired in the US or just in the planning?

Does at least sound like it is different.

Its called The Hit and was shown on RTE2 in Ireland the other day. Havent heard what ratings it got but it's not a big new show like what Voice was, which was successful in many countries before coming over to Ireland and the UK.

It actually sounds quite good. I think ITV could see how this does in America and see if they can get the format here.
