Just adding to the heap of Robbie fanmail... please don't leave, enough regulars have seemingly gone already, I love reading every post you write!
So stay, because I for one love you (no homo! )X Factor down blah blah but it's still winning the week. Shame about The Scapegoat, ITV will be disappointed. Must have been quite shit to have pulled such an appalling figure after an XF lead in. How did Doctor Who do? Can't find it amongst all the angst.

I'm not sure what the value of that would be though. We (as in the people in this thread) might want it but I'm not sure there's really benefit for them.

Indeed, I had not realised that so many erstwhile regulars had departed one way or another. |

Ha - only kidding - as much as I disagree with his views (but sometimes agree ) we still need Auntie's Bloomers on here to hold the station up! ![]() Re the Scapegoat - a bit confusing subject matter in the write ups - was it a drama, a thriller?? Might have put many folk off, and ITV could therefore have scheduled something more appropriate (this prog was set in the 1950s - does that really appeal to a 16-34 audience?) But I did record it - still to watch. |

Bad rating for Paralympic Closing Ceremony, I thought it was going to peak over 10million. Another flop Itv drama yesterday. Theres little point showing so much drama if viewers arent going to watch them.

One message that might be getting lost in the XF debate is that ITV's reliance on a small number of stellar shows such as XF, BGT, IAC and even Downton, means that, save for a small number of flagship dramas and one-offs, they are running the risk of putting all of their broadcasting eggs in one basket, a basket that is showing signs of wear.
And when those shows falter and wither (as indeed they will at some point, if they haven't already), ITV don't seem to have a credible plan regarding nurturing new shows or formats to take their place (RoB excepted). Or, if they have a plan, it's not working too well |

Dallas repeat rating was a tad underwhelming but it was a tough slot as I said when announced. And approaching 4 million in toto is not bad. Later Thursday this week for the repeat should get maybe 500 k to add to maybe 2.5 million for the first run I guesstimate.
This Morning included Dallas in its soap preview slot with Sharon Marshall (something Hollyoaks rarely gets, just Corrie, Emmerdale and East Enders) So that will give it a little boost. On Loose Women with Martin Shaw, Denise Welch wanted to know why as a Geordie actressthey had not cast her yet! Martin brilliantly sidestepped that by suggesting she get him cast as the lead in the adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey and he would get her a part in the next series of George Gently.

People have said they should have waited until this week to launch new shows, but when you start writing slots off, especially this year, you'd never actually air anything. Just avoid the Euros, Wimbledon, the Jubilee, the Olympics, Paralympics, BGT week, Children in Need/Comic Relief, major football, Downton & New Tricks, Corrie, EastEnders, which leaves about an hour a week to show everything! |

A woman who made a fool of her husband with her shenanigans over the years more like - she has no shame. ![]()
It seems there is very little brand loyalty to ITV at all these days. The self styled peoples channel of yesteryear where half the nation left the button on 3 is now a shadow of its former self where people leap onto a brand such as X Factor but then leap off the moment it ends. There was an enormous amount of loyalty to ITV,and ok the tv landscape has changed unbelievably, but I reckon the hierarchy there has rather lost the plot in the last decade and ended up with an audience which isnt anywhere near at home with it as its glorious past suggests it once was. Somewhere along the line someone appears to have decided that the soaps, the big brand talent/reality shows and the odd drama hit was enough-but if they start to fail what then?
And why not? Those types of programmes have done very well for them over the years - delivering good/great figures and good for them! Times change though - and as you say if they are doing their job they will be looking ahead. Once again, hats off to them for delivering several new dramas last week.

I've posted on this thread since its very first day in December 2006. In fact, mine was the first reply posted in response to ronant's jolly good suggestion of having a thread where the previous night's ratings could be collated and discussed. I have 7618 posts on DS in nearly 8 years and I reckon >7,500 of them must have been on here.
This may very well be my last post on it. Like other long-standing stalwarts of the thread, I'm fed up of the hassle. The increasing number of numpties, name-callers, the ignorant, the repeated constant same-questioners, the too-lazy to look for ratings elsewhere in the public domain, the (think they-) know-it-alls, those pursuing an agenda (usually pursuing someone else who they perceive is pursuing an agenda, and one which happens to run counter to the agenda they are quietly pursuing...) - frankly, the idiots slowly killing the thread. Today takes the biscuit. I could rebut the various points that cropped up today, but I'd be at it till the early hours and contrary to popular opinion, I don't spend all my life on here posting about how good the BBC is, and how I'm infatuated with the Beeb, and how I want ITV dead... The most irritating thing for me is that those who are constantly on my back clearly only manage to read the posts where I have a pop at ITV/Cowell, and are somehow strangely totally oblivious to the ones where I have a go at the Beeb. ![]() The fact is, with the likes of rzt gone, GeorgeS gone, Zoe gone, ronant posting once a blue moon, D.M.N. clearly getting naffed off, others reduced to lurking status, this thread is a shadow of its former self, and with the good natured and good humoured chit chat from a small band of genuine ratings enthusiasts all but vanished, has probably come close to running its course. As DMN keeps pointing out, the ratings he collates each day on here - for those of us who frequent this thread, for no other reason than his own personal desire to do it - are pretty much all in the public domain, and you can get all the ratings you need online - so there's no need really to even come on here any more. And frankly, if DMN stopped his roundups on here for just a few days, the thread would probably wither and die anyway, the numpties would probably keep on arguing with each other and asking the same stupid questions, oblivious to the fact no-one was posting any ratings any more.... This thread is still the best place on the internet to get the fullest, most comprehensive set of overnight ratings on the internet - which is pretty impressive for a simple thread on a forum (and great thanks to DMN for that, and others such as rzt in the past). It's better than MediaGuardian, Broadcast Digital Spy and everything else. Over the years it hasn't just had comprehensive roundups, it's had some of the best debate around the television industry. And yes it does sometimes getting dragged down by the inane and the dull, it's a shame if some feel unwelcome, but on the flip side, the regulars don't want to see such a readable thread's quality diluted. I don't post as much as I did - I started it as a dossy student who preferred to post last night's ratings then go to a 9am lecture, and now sadly i'm all grown up, but read it every single day. Robbie is undoubtedly one of those who has made the thread the best on DS. So come back Robbie! |

Maybe it's just me but when did Strictly make such a big deal of a photoshoot involving Bruce, Tess, and the like? Are the BBC getting cocky against Cowell yet again? They're so boring when it comes to him. Thinking XF will be a walkover. They shouted it from the rooftops when The Voice got off to a flying start then retreated to where they should be when the dust settled. Cowell is extremely cocky, of course, but he does it in a fun way. The BBC is faceless to most viewers yet is very arrogant when it comes to trying to beat Cowell shows. This from a publically funded organisation. Weird.

I notice that Panorama has been moved to 7.30 so that the athletes' parade highlights can have the better 8.30 slot (still against a Corrie, but more viewers available).
