Yes, I sometimes forget that not many people are 'into' ratings! But for casual users of the BARB website (and granted there probably aren't many) it wouldn't be obvious, say, to look for ITV1 HD in the top 10s and add it on. It is a sizeable chunk of the audience as well. However, presumably ITV1 pay BARB to split the figures and BARB probably don't think they should bother adding them together.

Despite my recent misgivings about one Robbie post where I felt that the choice of words was misjudged, I too would like to echo those sentiments.

Indeed, I had not realised that so many erstwhile regulars had departed one way or another.

Re the Scapegoat - a bit confusing subject matter in the write ups - was it a drama, a thriller?? Might have put many folk off, and ITV could therefore have scheduled something more appropriate (this prog was set in the 1950s - does that really appeal to a 16-34 audience?) But I did record it - still to watch.

Bad rating for Paralympic Closing Ceremony, I thought it was going to peak over 10million. Another flop Itv drama yesterday. Theres little point showing so much drama if viewers arent going to watch them.

One message that might be getting lost in the XF debate is that ITV's reliance on a small number of stellar shows such as XF, BGT, IAC and even Downton, means that, save for a small number of flagship dramas and one-offs, they are running the risk of putting all of their broadcasting eggs in one basket, a basket that is showing signs of wear.

And when those shows falter and wither (as indeed they will at some point, if they haven't already), ITV don't seem to have a credible plan regarding nurturing new shows or formats to take their place (RoB excepted). Or, if they have a plan, it's not working too well

If it wasn't such an expensive show, then it could have lived on in an early evening slot, but the expectations were so high as Syco made ROB and it featured Ant and Dec that it has turned into an embarassment for ITV who were hoping it would get 8 million viewers a week.

X Factor, Lets just say that the one thing that could damage it this year it would be Strictly Come Dancing

Dallas repeat rating was a tad underwhelming but it was a tough slot as I said when announced. And approaching 4 million in toto is not bad. Later Thursday this week for the repeat should get maybe 500 k to add to maybe 2.5 million for the first run I guesstimate.

This Morning included Dallas in its soap preview slot with Sharon Marshall (something Hollyoaks rarely gets, just Corrie, Emmerdale and East Enders) So that will give it a little boost.

On Loose Women with Martin Shaw, Denise Welch wanted to know why as a Geordie actressthey had not cast her yet! Martin brilliantly sidestepped that by suggesting she get him cast as the lead in the adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey and he would get her a part in the next series of George Gently.

Yeah, that sums up my feeling on the subject pretty well too.

It seems there is very little brand loyalty to ITV at all these days. The self styled peoples channel of yesteryear where half the nation left the button on 3 is now a shadow of its former self where people leap onto a brand such as X Factor but then leap off the moment it ends. There was an enormous amount of loyalty to ITV,and ok the tv landscape has changed unbelievably, but I reckon the hierarchy there has rather lost the plot in the last decade and ended up with an audience which isnt anywhere near at home with it as its glorious past suggests it once was. Somewhere along the line someone appears to have decided that the soaps, the big brand talent/reality shows and the odd drama hit was enough-but if they start to fail what then?

I hadn't seen it advertised much, and what with it being a one off and opposite the Paralympics closing ceremony, it was obviously never going to be the next massive hit.

People have said they should have waited until this week to launch new shows, but when you start writing slots off, especially this year, you'd never actually air anything.

Just avoid the Euros, Wimbledon, the Jubilee, the Olympics, Paralympics, BGT week, Children in Need/Comic Relief, major football, Downton & New Tricks, Corrie, EastEnders, which leaves about an hour a week to show everything!

And why not? Those types of programmes have done very well for them over the years - delivering good/great figures and good for them! Times change though - and as you say if they are doing their job they will be looking ahead.

Once again, hats off to them for delivering several new dramas last week.

Argh c'mon Robbie you can't really go! Some of the criticisms of Robbie have been ridiculous. His posts are constantly humorous, always intelligent and very well written. Some people seem to have a terrible sense of humour bypass, we're just talking about television here, it's not life and death.

This thread is still the best place on the internet to get the fullest, most comprehensive set of overnight ratings on the internet - which is pretty impressive for a simple thread on a forum (and great thanks to DMN for that, and others such as rzt in the past). It's better than MediaGuardian, Broadcast Digital Spy and everything else. Over the years it hasn't just had comprehensive roundups, it's had some of the best debate around the television industry.

And yes it does sometimes getting dragged down by the inane and the dull, it's a shame if some feel unwelcome, but on the flip side, the regulars don't want to see such a readable thread's quality diluted.

I don't post as much as I did - I started it as a dossy student who preferred to post last night's ratings then go to a 9am lecture, and now sadly i'm all grown up, but read it every single day. Robbie is undoubtedly one of those who has made the thread the best on DS. So come back Robbie!

Maybe it's just me but when did Strictly make such a big deal of a photoshoot involving Bruce, Tess, and the like? Are the BBC getting cocky against Cowell yet again? They're so boring when it comes to him. Thinking XF will be a walkover. They shouted it from the rooftops when The Voice got off to a flying start then retreated to where they should be when the dust settled. Cowell is extremely cocky, of course, but he does it in a fun way. The BBC is faceless to most viewers yet is very arrogant when it comes to trying to beat Cowell shows. This from a publically funded organisation. Weird.

I think I've heard of them all (which seems a little depressing). Although some if not most of them I wouldn't recognise walking down the street. Its a strong diverse line-up though. Potential to appeal to a lot of people. On paper they've done a good job we'll see how it works in reality.

I notice that Panorama has been moved to 7.30 so that the athletes' parade highlights can have the better 8.30 slot (still against a Corrie, but more viewers available).

A shock to see Sid "I'm done with the UK" Owen doing it.

Seen that earlier, The School Dinner programme on Channel 4 looks more interesting
