It all depends who makes the shortlist though and what kind of campaigns spring up around people. There was that ridiculous Ryan Giggs campaign a few years ago that overrode everyone's assumption that Jensen Button would walk away with it.

The BBC has certainly earmarked money for kids output but its hard to see where that money has actually been going at least in regards to CBBC's output. This is the first time since Sarah Jane launched that I can remember there being anything particularly noteworthy or ambitious on CBBC. And the only reason that appears to be happening is because they can't make Sarah Jane anymore. I'd also contend that they've never been able to find an engaging way to fill the void of Saturday morning kids shows. I'll happily concede that pre-school content still produces worthwhile output though.
