Is the Paralympics closing ceremony this Friday, along with the soaps ?

But for once the BBC are being sensible. Spooks under-performed against DA so it was always going to be unlikely that they'd waste another top drama there. History of the World will find its niche audience and it is a real alternative to DA. I would estimate a 3 million audience against DA which is respectable for this type of programme.

Ouch for BBC One last night

An hour long The One Show got what it deserved, are they not taking the p a bit, airing random hour long one shows for no particular reason? It's one thing it being on every night but an hour of it?

The Flowerpot Gang was a rare occurance of one of these BBC1 filler programmes not holding up with a default audience, 2.2m translates to a sub 2m rating on ITV.

CBB shouldn't really be under 2m at this stage, CBB is supposed to be the version of Big Brother that does well.

ITV 2 really has gone to the dogs

Why is loveable Pudsey Bear presenting on ITV 2 now? has he hit on hard times, or been poached in a big money deal ive missed?

My Dad - just right for him as an alternative to DA.

What's interesting about this is that BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4 were seemingly all airing documentaries at 9PM. That's quite the clashing schedules.

The big immediate test for CBBC will be Wizards vs. Aliens which is, if I'm not mistaken, getting quite considerable promotion across the BBC already. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

And whilst I know the weekday CBBC slot on BBC1 isn't particularly popular these days and it on its way out but it'll be interesting to see how much CBBC content survives on BBC1 in the years to come. You'd think something like Wizards vs. Aliens for example could be prime for a Saturday/Sunday repeat run in a late afternoon/early evening slot and would help the BBC fill a slot that's quite difficult to find content for particularly cost-effective content.

A CBBC repeat slot at might not perform amazingly well at say 5-6 on a Saturday but surely it couldn't do much worse than stuff like Don't Scare The Hare and would certainly be a more PR friendly and cost effective move I'd imagine.

Looks as though BBC One will be giving Abbey even softer opposition than last autumn. Can't help thinking ITV might have preferred the Andrew Marr series to have appeared in January 2013, in order to give ITV's new shop drama an easy run.

we said this about the Sarah Jane Adventures, and that never happened, Wizards Vs Aliens, being an in direct replacement.

It's one of C5's highest 8pm ratings ever. The early start (which wasn't well advertised IMO) caught lots of viewers out and this is proven by the breakdown.

It began with a disastrous 1.29m (6.5%) at 8pm. By 8.50pm this number had soared by over 70% to 2.23m (10%).

The second show hovered around the 2m mark throughout, peaking at 2.08m (12.2%) for the announcement of the 2nd evictee.

So Dallas is competiting against footy, EastEnders & Miranda.

CBB Final opposite Footy, & Mrs Browns Boys plus on BBC2 Parade's End.

I caught part of Stacey's prog...difficult to tell which one was the bitch.

That they haven't made a second series isn't a big clue?

That's been a rather clever (albeit somewhat under the radar) bit of scheduling by the BBC it has to be said.

Indeed. It seems like a good bit of scheduling that provides a contrast to what ITV1 will be serving up in the same slot and saves them from trying to run a new drama opposite a big juggernaut. History of the World should also fit in with the general flow of BBC1's Sunday night schedule these days. Presumably it'll be Countryfile at 7, Antiques Roadshow at 8 and History of the World at 9? A solid if unspectacular line-up that does what it needs to and offers an alternative to ITV which will presumably be The Cube (or something similar), X Factor Results and Downton.

True.

Out of interest what is the requirement (if there's one at all) for the BBC airing children's content on BBC1 when the digital switchover is complete? Surely they should be airing something...

How many episodes is Downton, do we know?

C4 will be showing Homeland from October so there could yet be a drama clash on Sunday nights, but hopefully not much of a crossover exists between those two shows as they are very different.

Remind us, what followed CBB?

You have to remember the old dears tuning in for Dallas like to get settled early.

So I've discovered, I think it could all fizzle out by then...and there's Countryfile, George Gentle, Dragon's Den, Corrie and X-Factor.

There was growth throughout the hour.

Tuning in 10 minutes early seems a little excessive, even for old dears. They were probably watching All Star Mr and Mrs anyway !

So maybe that's why the BBC are rushing out "The Paradise" as that too is set in a Victorian Department Store. This time though, it will be ITV accused of copying the BBC! (The BBC were accused of copying DA when Upstairs Downstairs was rebooted!).

Thanks for the info btw.

Strictly results at 7.15 I would imagine. The dance off is strongly rumoured to be returning so that should add around 10 minutes to the result shows.

It does seem to me that CBB still has some go, while the civvy one seems to have gone completely flat, and I've always agreed with you that it is a solid gold rater for Channel 5. OK it might not get the tabloid inches now, but it's doing nearly as well as a certain overhyped show featuring ALW on ITV a couple of months ago.

"Olympics helps BBC1 to biggest ever ratings lead over ITV1"

"Channel has 21.9% audience share for year to date, a record 7.2 points ahead of ITV1, thanks to Games and diamond jubilee"

Media Guardian article with lots of year to date stats.

Headline point is that BBC1 lead over ITV1 for year to date is an all time record for both peak and all hours.

Is this the same default BBC1 audience that never goes under 4m?

Yet it seems to go under 4m quite a lot which just proves that there isn't a default audience.

There isn't much left of the old BBC/ITV only households now. I'd find it odd if you found someone who says they only watch one channel now.
