Yes, interesting that Dallas's 16-34 skew was identical to OUAT's (11.1%) and it had quite a lot more children (14.0% v 10.0%). when you might have expected OUAT to have more youth appeal.

Dallas did well for Channe; 5.

It would have been nice to see CBB closer to 3million than at 2million.

I think the final will get around 2.3-2.5million.

It's not the skew, it's the share at that time - if it was skew, the children 4 to 15 column through to Adults 65+ would equal 100.

OUAT demo reminds me of watching a lot of shows on Ch5 when I was a kid. Other than the usual kids programmes and Trek/Buffy on BBC Two, Ch5 had a great mix of shows that I'd watch. Charmed being a fave. (kids are spoilt these days, I remember the tears of going on holiday to places that didn't have Channel 5 that'll be my story in the years to come - "you used to not even get Ch5 in my days!")

Its quite good the BBC do Doctor Who/Merlin and whilst childrens shows quality has risen massively (we 90 kids lie, looking at what kids get today their pretty sorted - specially with the likes of RTD being involved in series); I do feel children are missed out in the schedules.

More 7/8pm dramas please

Ah OK thanks. We rarely see tables of share by demographic group; I think they're just as interesting as skews. Dallas had lower skews in the youngest age groups than OUAT then, as seemed more logical.

Dallas's higher overall audience, however, meant that even with a much smaller 16-34 skew than OUAT it had almost as many 16-34s in raw numbers, and the lower-viewing slot (Wed 9pm vs. Sun 8pm) meant a tie in share at 11.1% in that age group.

I think those are still pretty decent ratings for Channel 4, and provides them with a solid foundation for developing sports coverage.

A very competitive night last night - at least ITV had the steel to come out with a rather bold schedule this week.

Laughable indeed that The Flowerpot Gang - primetime BBC1 fare at 8pm, was deservedly beaten by Mr & Mrs - by 1 and a half million. Contrary to the expectant BBC propaganda on here from we know who, Mrs. Biggs was hardly a "flop" when faced with stiff competition at 9pm. However I do agree with some who think it might struggle in the coming weeks - another 4 episodes seems too long.

Channel4 will get a very good peak rating for right now, the 100m final.

I'm not sure if this is because I've lived through the British version for so many years but The X Factor US continues to feel incredibly stilted and dated. Even from a US perspective it just feels as if they've dumped the bog standard American Idol auditions in front of a crowd. The more I see the more I understand why NBC aren't shying away from it with their scheduling. It also feels telling that basically none of these clips or promos focus on any of the talent on the show. And you're right Britney doesn't come across as a particularly natural or engaging television presence. Demi Lovato comes across quite well in those (and other) clips though.

Sticking with The X Factor US Simon Cowell has been going into defensive mode about the clash with The Voice next week. He's described it as 'dirty tricks' blamed The Voice creators for pushing the scheduling after Britain's Got Talent beat The Voice in the UK and then a few sentences later blamed Christina Aguilera for trying to overshadow Britney (and apparently Britney will be devestated by this turn of events). Its a very different tone from what we're used to hearing. Could Mr Cowell be a little worried?

Expecting a good rating for C4 tonight, there is a buzz about it on Internet forums where there has usually been little or no Paralympic discussion.

C4's Paralympics account on Twitter has been calling it Thriller Thursday.

Re Dallas - isn't what really matters here not last night, but long term - weeks 6,7,8 etc - and how many viewers stick with it?


Whenver dancc has posted ratings for the afternoon movie in the past, the share has usually been high by C5 standards. I don't think C5 would be wise to mess with that

It's been one of the best nights of London 2012 - and I think Jonnie Peacock got the biggest reaction of the summer from the stadium crowd. Not even Mo or Jess got the crowd chanting their name before they'd even run.

I watched Bletchley code today and noticed before it started that Itv1 didnt show their normal ident. They showed a special made ident called 'Drama Lives on Itv'. It seems like they are already starting to make changes from calling the channel Itv1 to Itv before the full rebrand next year. I expect announcers will slowly change from saying Itv1 to Itv in the next few months. Everyone I know calls the channel Itv anyway so it doesnt make much of a difference to us.

They should, but the build up was almost unwatchable, never seen such a concentration of "back after the break" links. I kept switching around and missed half of Weirs race. Some great stories but they seem to get lost in actionless prattle and adverts on Channel 4's primetime show.

Overall though ratings are still in a lacklustre rut. Maybe expected a bit more from ITV's new style soap/game show/drama midweek combo especially as BBC1 had the blandest opposition for the most part.

They showed it before Mrs Biggs as well. It's their equivalent to the BBC's Original British Drama.

I don't think that's true at all (apart from kids being missed in the schedule).

There may very well be a couple of shows that are head and shoulders above anything we were seeing in the 90's (thanks to being packaged as part of prime time BBC1) but taken as a whole children's television in this country is in a truly terrible state. The really strange thing is though that I think we're producing some of if not the best pre-school content anywhere in the world. I'd also point out that Russell T Davies was part of children's television in the 90's. So were Paul Abott, Steven Moffat and Kay Mellor. Its an impressive list of people who worked on children's television at the start of their careers which is just another reason why I can't understand why broadcasters have let it die out to the extent they have.

The state of children's television in the UK is one of the big issues that needs to be addressed but no one really seems to want to and I fear that just shunting it onto digital channels is only going to mean that it never happens.
