I was reading a book on my kindle last week and it kept freezing every so often then coming back to life. I just thought it was over-heating or something as I'm always on it (I'm rubbish with anything Gadgety anyway) but then the screen went completely white and didn't come back on. The next day, the screen went to the basic background of the tree, but it won't unfreeze. The light goes orange when I charge it, but otherwise there is no light and the battery was more of less full when it started playing up. It's just over a year old. Any ideas on how to help, or do I have to ring Amazon?

Have you tried to reset it? By holding the power switch for 45 seconds until the light goes green and it re-boots?

If you try that and it doesn't work then I'd suggest calling amazon's kindle support line, rather than the general sales line.

factory reset. as for normal reset. use slider. except you hold down 5 way while screen is flashing. you will then be prompted to enter letters "r e s e t".

this erases all contents so if possible save all folders contents to a pc first. the usb connection still probably works.

you will have to reregister it to your amazon account.

Re #4 and #5: #3 implies that the problem is already solved.

factory reset via slider is useful to know. as last resort. i once had normal reset stick halfway through and would not complete. despite several goes. on another occasion i lost text to speech ......

reset reboots operating system. factory reset reloads it. like system recovery on a pc.
