A year or so ago I recorded and edited an unencrypted HD channel by using the Non-Freesat mode. I wanted to do the same thing yesterday with a BBC HD programme but couldn't find the channel. Channels 5171 and 5438 are described as BBC HD but neither have any reception.

Are the BBC channels to be found in Non-Freesat mode?

Yes but now DVD-S2. Thr channel numbers are entirely arbitary depending on what non freesat channels you already have they will be different.

What do you mean by prior to starting. By scanning again witthout deleting all the channels you will now have two entries for the BBC-HD channels. The new ones will most likely be found on much higher channel numbers.

As it sounds - entered N-F mode, did manual tune, then went looking for the channel I wanted. Are you sure about channel duplication resulting from this? A re-tune of standard Freesat or, indeed, Freeview doesn't require you to delete existing channels first.

DVB-S2 is a more efficient way of using the bandwidth on a transponder - A similar system is used for Freeview-HD (DVB-T2, SD channels use DVB-T).

Yes sure about non-freesat. Scanning more than once duplicates existing channels with nrw channel numbers and adds any new ones. Use the list command in non-freesat to see if you have more than BBC1-HD and BBC-HD.

Scanning freesat is quite different the epg gives you the channel numbers and it replaces you channel line up with a new one.

Might be stating the obvious, but if you press the button to list HD channels only (is it the red button in the channel list? pressed a few times until it shows HD only?) it's a lot easier to find what you're looking for in Non-Freesat mode.

on the echostar if a channel is in the freesat epg I don't think it can be added in non freesat mode.

Same channels. The Panny Freesat TV's are the same I believe. No problem in this respect on Humax boxes.
