There was a thread on this topic, but it seems to have been deleted. I wonder why?

Anyway I just upgraded my phone, and it was suprising easy. I backed up all my contacts, call history, sms's, and apps using a free app. Upgraded with the RUU program on htcdev and then restored my data, settings and apps.

I had a bit of a scare when the restore app said it couldn't set my APN, but the phone had a drop down menu of settings that included my 'Vodafone Contract' option, which worked perfectly.

So, the point is: I'm a total novice and I found it very easy. So if you are nervous about doing this upgrade, be brave!

ICS seems nice so far, the folders function is much improved.

One issue. Before the upgrade Sense merged contacts from multiple sources (facebook, Outlook, SIM, etc). Now they are separate. Is there a setting I need to change?

Thanks in advance if you know how to fix this.

From a PC, I registered on htcdev site. Downloaded the RUU (Rom Update Utility) that was for region WWE (world wide English) to the PC.

Unzip the file and there is a PDF instruction doc, and a exe file. Follow the instructions!

Not sure about the sync thing is it not in accounts and sync? But yeah I like the upgrade too. I wonder why they didnt include the peep twitter app? The only thing I didnt like about the install was the connecting and disconnecting as I worried something was going to go wrong. Glad they have included the narrow htc clock thats also on the htc sensation. Just wish they included sence 4. So is your phone unbranded now?

Yes. It was Vodafone, but now it is unbranded. Much less bloatware than before. So far I've not found any downside to the phone being unbranded.

Ive noticed when you do a boot up not a fast boot you get the white htc screen then a blank black screen which hangs for around 3-4 seconds then I get the animated htc screen just wondered does it do this on yours? It doesnt really bother me and its proberly just part of the software but its just that black screen pause wasnt as long before.

Ive read that if your rooted and you install the rom it says its installed as normal but then when the phone boots for the 1st time it hangs at the black screen.

Just a warning for those who are rooted.

As I wrote in my first post, I'm a total novice at this. I've never rooted a phone or loaded a custom ROM in my life.

My post was meant for people like me, not 'experts'.

I'm not saying you've rooted your phone I just said there seems to be a 3-4 second pause when you boot the phone up when not in fast boot.

It's proberly just the software like I said. I'm no expert either.
