they say they will.

i'm sure in the main it's true though. in the main the brand loyalty is amazing.

but it's also a bit pathetic. for most people they are talking about the end of their current contract at some point over the next 2 years....

....I can't imagine saying in 2 years time, regardless of anything else that happens i would buy a ford car, or an LG tv.

lets put it the other way to see how ridiculous statistics and surveys are:

33% of iPhone users will not buy the next iPhone.

To be fair thats probably not as jigh as it once was.

It also pains me to say it but probably a similar percentage of S2 owners upgraded to, or plan to upgrade to, the S3.

i'd be surprised if they do. the early adopters may. but even for them by the time they come to the end of their contracts the SIII will be a minimum of 9 months old. for most it will be much older than that.

it only takes one person to point out to them that some new LG phone is much newer/better and basically the same.

Plus people like their apps. Once you get onto Android you have a choice of manufacturers to play the same apps. Only Apple do iOS of course. Deep down a lot of people probably don't want change, just a faster processor and a better screen!

"18% of the population was spontaneously aware that Apple is set to launch a new device"
Does that actually mean anything?

it does but its worded badly. What it means is 18% when asked something like
"are you aware of any new phones coming out next month"
said yes, the iphone 5.

as opposed to the prompted "are you aware there's a new iphone coming out next month"

less than half think it will have a bigger screen. Don't they spend all their times discussing minutiae on forums?

This is the important bit of the sentence: "at some point regardless of what its like."

So that's people who would buy the phone regardless of what it's like, what it's specs are etc. That's a really worrying high number. I'd definitely count myself in the other section. I may buy another iPhone at some point, but I certainly wouldn't buy it unless there was a reason to upgrade.

That 67% must REALLY love their iPhones.

Doesn't quite say that. Link "while 67% of current iPhone owners said they expect to purchase the new model at some point in the future."

It's an addiction, conditioned carefully by the Apple PR. Meaning of life is to get the latest iGadget.

Don't think this sort of addiction is confined to Apple products!

Sure, but I think in Apple's case it's connected with the brand itself. In other cases it's a particular product that is the next must have.

I think your right. I, on the other hand, am allergic to iOS and feel nauseous when I see someone with an iPhone or iPad. And when I touch those devices I can feel my brain cells popping, something that can only be stopped if I go home and have a good root in a darkened room in front of my PC.

I only had iphones for 3 years but became bored with them and was tempted with the bigger screens of Android.Currently have an S2 and will see what this iphone offers before deciding what to get next but will probably get an S3 as its looking more likely this iphone will only be a 4.5S and not a new design at all.

It will be interesting to see what they define as a 'big update' to be honest.

Bigger screen ? nothing groundbreaking there
different aspect ratio ? only changing to what most other manufacturers have been using for years
NFC ? already done.

.... thats not a dig - genuinely - im just intrigued to know what they will do to give a 'wow' factor.

I hope all of the rumours and photos are wrong then as it's only a slightly bigger 4S in looks. No Nfc no wireless charging no quad core, removal of YouTube and Google maps. You can only hope that Apple themselves released the mock up pics and have something under wraps to stun us.

Been done already several times.

It will be a big update for apple. But for comparison, it will all have already been done a thousand times from other companies.

I believe part of the brand loyalty with Apple is that a far higher percentage of people have paid apps on their iPhones than on Android. Once you've paid for a bunch of apps, you are far more likely to want to extend that investment to your next phone.

Sadly I don't have any statistics to back up this belief, but I've spoken to a few friends with iPhones about this in the past.

Again, just my opinion, but if the question had been "Will your next phone also be an iPhone?", I think 67% of iPhone owners would have said yes, whether the iPhone 5 was launched or not. This is why they say "yes" without knowing the spec of the iPhone 5. They don't need to know they spec.

Because that is how Apple work

One big update every two years.

Hence the Iphone 3 , 4 and then in the intervening years you get the S versions .

This is not rocket science!
