Hehe that's not a positive then really is it? 67% so over half will buy at some point! Some point can mean a few months down the line, or it can also mean never, since there is always something to take their eyes off the iphone.

A lot can happen between now and that "some point" in time that they are waiting for to arrive.

Bigger screen ? nothing groundbreaking there
different aspect ratio ? only changing to what most other manufacturers have been using for years
NFC ? already done.

Just to get a bit of a measure, did you think the S3 was a big update?

Hence the Iphone 3 , 4 and then in the intervening years you get the S versions .

This is not rocket science!”

I'm aware that is what they have done previously. I just didn't know it was a binding contract?

Indeed. They will have to rely on the media spin working overtime to sell features that are already out there on other handsets. It will get harder and harder to wow the crowd, as so much has been done already, people know the alternatives now offer pretty much an allround solution now so there is no real NEED to go for an iphone and people have realized that with the latest Android phones. The phone market breaks down more and more as other phones start to gain a share of the pie, Because unlike Apple, other companies offer solutions for every type of user and every budget.

Not everyone needs a premium phone with all the the trimmings. Blackberry will enter the smartphone space again with a big release next year and windows phones will further dilute the market.

Apple as good as they have been need to realize that there is enough out there to provide competition and steal more of their share. It's not just samsung they need to worry about. It's been a good run, and they have reached an incredible high but from this point on, the only way is down.

Just my opinion by the way. I have seen enough technology over the decades fall from grace very quickly and it doesn't take much. So if Apple think they have got this in the bag with every release, they will get a big wake up call very soon.

to be honest i dont own an S2 or an S3.

From what I have read the S3 was an update over the S2 in:

- Performance
- Resolution
- Screen Size
- Software (Touchwiz)
- Camera
- Style redesign (in my opinion they look quite different)

Now Id wager that the 5 is going to do the same over the 4s ....

- faster
- bigger screen (not sure about resolution)
- iOS6 (although some of this will still be available on earlier models)
- Camera ? I dont know
- Style redesign ? I guess it looks like a stretched 4s and it seems to be polarising opinions even of Apple fans.

BUT

the S3 is (arguably) the fastest phone out there with a very high spec. For the 5 to look 'wow' on spec (on paper) it needs to beat the S3 hardware wise. Im guessing they will go for a decent GPU as I doubt they will go quad core but to the layman quad core 'sounds' better than 'dual core' even if the GPU does even things out.

Apple spent many years 'leading the pack' but are now at risk of playing catchup. If they leap-frog the S3 then Samsung has the ecosystem to release a new model in a few months to grab the 'lead' again whereas Apple is tied into its self-enforced '1 phone per year' regime.

As I say, it will be interesting to see what they announce.

Again. I dont have an S2 or an S3 (or an iPhone). I dont like touchwiz particularly so Im on a Galaxy Nexus.

I sold my iPhone to buy a Nokia 808 Pureview, but I imagine most people aren't like me...

I only have a works provided Blackberry, but I struggle to understand the expectation side of these phone releases. I think we are beyond anyone bringing out a 'wow' design because it has all been done now. I think the Iphone4 and S2 are better looking phones than the S3. For me the Jury is still out regarding the screen size of the S3 as everytime I look at one it just seems too big.

Although I agree with the Quad/Dual debate, I'm not really sure if people care less. I've tried both the Iphone and S3 in the shops and don't think either of them are slow and most delays (from my blackberry experience) at caused by the 3G or wifi connection.

I'm waiting for the Iphone5 but not really with any expectation. If I don't get the Iphone I think I will go for the S2 (some very good deals at the moment).

I guess I could be considered an Apple Fanboi. I have three macs (and looking to buy a macbook pro, as well), ipad, iphone 4, ipod. The wife has mac, iphone 4, ipod, so, yeah... Fanboi. But, I am worried that Apple really need to pull something spectacular out of the bag to compete with Samsung. Despite hating Android [I have a Galaxy Tab 2], I have to admit/admire the way the S3 has taken the market - it's a very compelling phone (even if it feels cheap and plasticky). Unless the iPhone 5 is significantly better then it could be a turning point in Apple's success.

It needs to be damned good.

neat. Hopefully resizable devices aren't too far away. not so much like that, but foldable or flexible displays.

Fair comment.

Im not the biggest fan of the S3 myself - call me old fashionned but i want my phone grey/black

But I do think that Apple need to have something to 'wow' about when they announce it.

If people have had a good overall experience with a phone, suffered no problems, or got good service if they did encounter any issues, and also due an upgrade plus have already invested in apps, it doesn't surprise me if many stick with the same type of phone.

I am hoping Apple have something new to bring to the table. I have been due a upgrade since December 2011 and did not get the Iphone 4s as it was lacking .

But I am in a tough spot as I don't want a Samsung 3 as its too big and I need a new phone . So it's a IPhone 5 or being stuck with my IPhone 4 which I'm bored of. X

I'd certainly get another iPhone. I have tried to like Android, tried out several phones and a tablet and just despise the whole feel of the OS so yes, I'll stick to what I like.

Add to that the phone can be controlled by my car radio, I can dock it on my hi-fi in the house and there is an added convienience there too.

What do you mean by 'nicer'?

I think the iphone4 and S2 have a nicer feel (and look). Strange as it may seem but the S3 felt a little 'light' to me. I do like the glass and metal look of the iphone but it seems a little heavy.

Yeah it's always funny when someone calls the SGS3 cheap and plasticky.

...as if something needs to feel heavy and metalic to be "premium", lol!

I doubt you'll be able to dock the 5, rumors are the diving port has changed, and if you use the headphone socket or Bluetooth, any phone will work.

Rumours being the operative word!

Just had my 4S a few months so won't be an issue for a couple of years for me.

I wouldn't call it cheap (I've been pricing them up) but it is made of plastic, isn't it?

The bottom line is that it is just different peoples views. I think the Iphone4 is the best looking (closely followed by the S2).
