Well, I have an S3 and an iPhone 4s and the S3 is really growing on me, Damn its a powerful phone. I cannot see the iPhone 5 "blowing it out the water" but I would expect it to at least equal it and "maybe" better it.

But I doubt their will be much in it either way. This S3 is drawing me in lol, I couldn't live with it as my main phone though. It really it just a little bit too big.

This story just proved a point to me.I sat on my break with 3 uni part timers and they were talking about buying the new Iphone.They all said they were going to buy it with their student loan.I asked them what they thought was the new selling point and none of them knew what new features it even had,they just "wanted" one.And this is exactly how I feel about Apple.Total blind buying due to mass marketing.I admire Apple so much for making people feel they "need" one.Heroin dealers don't have a look in.

You do understand we're only talking about mobile phone here don't you?

You do get that yeah? It's just a mobile phone.

But he has a point. People are jumping into something, perhaps an expensive contract over the cost of two years, simply because it's the next big thing to have without even knowing anything about it.

Can I ask, why do you think you will be getting the next iPhone when nothing has been said about it's features?

The point being made is people are almost ready to throw money at Apple despite knowing nothing about it. I like to research something first, read reviews and see a phone in person before deciding. Yet Apple fans (NOT fanboys, I'm not attacking anyone here) seem to be at the opposite end of this spectrum and are happy to jump in with both feet, blind.

It's an almost foreign idea to me

You bought something better for you or something you think is a better phone. Just as I tried Android and thought iPhone was better for me.

At the end of the day it's a free world. Not one person has been marched at gunpoint into an Apple shop and been forced to buy anything.

Are you sure? That never happens?

I can totally see where you are coming from but I buy into the whole apple ecosystem. I have macs and an ipad and it all works well together. The phone will be good and a significant improvement on the 4S but probably not amazing. As I say its the bigger picture I buy into anyway as well as the build quality and great support and customer service.

Samsung users would of done the same for the Samsung 3 . So it is not just apple fans who do this.

If you have a Iphone and love it and are due a upgrade then it makes sense you will automatically upgrade . You do not need to see it to buy it. You already know what it does due to having a previous model .

Not to the same scale. You don't have Samsung fans queueing up in mass numbers outside mobile phones shops on day one or saying in high numbers they will upgrade to the next Samsung device despite knowing nothing about it.

True, but what if it's not a major jump in features? Is it really worth still upgrading or should you not stick to your current iPhone and get a lower tariff.

Although I've not laid eyes on the new iPhone, I usually do upgrade as I always get a very good price for the old one.

That is simply not true.

Blowing your student loan on just a mobile phone sounds a great idea to me!

From the people i know , you normally get every other Iphone.

So i did not get a 4s due to having a 4 and my friends wont get a 5 as they have a 4s.

That makes sense if that is the case.

The iPhone has appeared on two year cycle:

iPhone (2007)

iPhone 3G (2008) -> 4 (2010) -> 5? (2012) [I've had the 3G and the 4, so far]

and

iPhone 3GS (2009) -> 4S (2011) -> ? (2013)

The "S" version being a revision of the previous release.

The timing goes down well with a 24 month contract.

But imagine for a moment Apple weren't so innovative a few years ago, even differences between consecutive models would still mean its lacking features compared to the current market. As an exaggeration imagine it were Nokia.

You still need to keep you latest model competitive with the current market regardless of people on getting every other model.
