It's not your student loan, so don't worry about it kidda. What is it with some people that they feel the need to tell other's ho they should or shouldn't spend their money?

If anyone wants an iPhone or Android phone its really none of you business. Your views on the product are welcome.

You moderating now? I'm pretty certain that in a thread specifically about the fact that people have made up their minds to buy a phone before they've seen it the merits of getting in to debt to buy it is also pertinent.

What is it with some people that they feel the need to tell other's what they should or shouldn't say.

Your views on the product are welcome.

And if it looks hideous? Do you still be a muppet and buy it?

Very odd...

I would imagine if it looked hideous then lots of people would not buy it. But, and it seems you don't agree, but Apple are known for bringing out stylish, well made products so the chances of it not looking good (to most people) is low.

There is nothing wrong with people trusting a brand. I currently have a VW Golf and plan to renew it for the new Golf which is due out next year. I do not currently know what the new Golf will look like, but that is my plan and I'm confident that VW will produce a car I'm going to like (they know there customers).

I see little difference with the phone market (except cars cost more!!)

http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/News/22...ew_device.aspx”

I can upgrade without penalty in December, my iphone 4 currently has a value of over £200 according to this http://mobilevaluer.com/mobile/worki...-4-16gb-black/.

It is possible, therefore that i could sell my iphone 4 this month upgade to the five and incur no additional cost. But it'll take a killer upgrade to the device to make me even consider it.

iphone is a very sleek looking device although the 4 is starting to look a bit dated. It is simple to use and packed with features but there are a number of things i dislike about it:

1). The icons are not "live". They do not deliver information other than the number of updates (i.e. count of email, sms etc). Other phones now do this so Apple is trailing.

2). The phone insists on placing icons on my first home screen. I want to see my background image and swipe to the second, third and fourth home screens to access my applications.

3). It does not update applications automatically and requires a password every time it does an update. This is just silly.

4). The camera is decent but on the rare occasion i've used it for video, has retained the portrait orientation meaning to get a decent full screen view on a laptop you have to turn it on its side. Its a waste of time showing it on a big flatscreen as you get over 50% of the screen filled by black bars.

5). I cannot customise it to automatically switch to a different profile depending on where i am. For instance, at work i might want no notificaitons, always on silent. At home i might want the opposite.

6). It has been promised since rollout they would enable FaceTime over 3G but have not done so yet. Yes, i can use Skype if i wish but the native client should work by default.

7). It isn't comfortable to hold and type for any length of time, the sharp edges at the bottom start to irritate my fingers after a while.

8). I don't really use or care for itunes and even though i'm a very savvy tech consumer, i'm unclear whether its going to treat the computer itunes app or the phone as the master source. Give that i once had an ipod filled with music and a pc with virtually none and it erased them from the ipod, i'm reluctant to try - most of my music is only on my phone. Just give me a basic explorer drag and drop function for the love of god!

9). I couldn't care less about Siri. I don't want to talk to a device and the limited UK functionality provides no incentive to convince myself its time to change.

I have yet to explore the range of other devices out there at present although i intend to over coming months, once i know what the new iphone has to offer.

So to conclude, Apple cannot be certain of my business and need to move on significantly with iphone 5.

Sure there are a few of you out there who know if any other devices resolve some of my issues above, any thoughts?

i agree with you.

my n95 had an active home screen in 2007. i think the lack of this is because it requires multitasking to do it.

with respect to video orientation. it's worth mentioning that a lot of players like VLC will let you rotate the video.

on the upgrades front. i know a few people that do this. they are offered a new iPhone during their current contract. but the current contract gets tacked on to the end. they're in a never ending spiral of like 4 year contracts.

I am torn, I'm due an upgrade and I don't really want to spend the next two years paying a fortune for my mobile. I love my iPhone 4 still but unless the iphone5 offers something significantly amazing I'll probably go with one of the cheaper Android phones. One of my main bugbears with the iPhone is the ridiculous 5 minute wait for it to switch on from a dead charge, this would have to be sorted with their next phone.

Tbh, I'm not really sure what features are technologically feasible to make the iPhone 5 stand out?

The only thing that is making me hold out is all my apps and iCloud sending all my pics and data to my iPad as backup.

I wondered when your strange posts would boomerang back paulker.

You seemed to only 'buy' the S3 last time to rubbish it so I can't see any different outcome from you 'buying the S3' a 2nd time.

There's definitely something wrong with iPhone screens IMO, half the people that have one have a cracked screen, plus I don't like not being able to change the battery and the lack of a microSD slot.

It's a poseur's phone really, for people to put on their desks and show people they can afford Apple, whereas Android is more for geeks like me who like customising their phones.

I went from the N95 to the awful X6. I only kept that a few months then upgraded to the iphone.

I had a look at the VLC option once but it seemed to only do it for playback or the methods of permanently altering the orientation seemed so convaluted i gave up. I have an iphone as i like simplicity - my days of faffing around with hardware and software are long gone.

As a result, sharing that video on other devices is a poor experience imho.

Having a contract in place isn't really a concern for me, i'm quite happy to keep a device for two years. If i was really desperate a year in, i'd probably just take out an additional contract and use the sale value of the device to offset the majority of remaning charges on the existing one. But i can't see that ever happening.

I have a feeling the iphone 5 launch is going to be a bit of "so what" affair. Its possible, with the passing of Jobs the intense innovation at Apple will decline and they will become just another player in the market, rather than the leader.

I think that is unduly harsh. I use iphone as i appreciated the simplicity of the interface and the design, not as i wanted to "pose". Given how many there are out there i really can't see how others would envy those who have one - you can't "pose" with something if it doesn't inspire envy.

I don't use a case or any kind of protector and my iphone in as good condition today as it was when i got it. People who break phones are just careless. I've had a mobile since 1997 and never lost, broken or damaged one.

I know loads of people with blackberry's, iphones, HTCs, Samsung, and none of them have cracked screens. I'm not sure what that proves!

That just seems a strange comment. In my investigations on choosing a phone I not not found anything that phones won't do that I really want. I can't imagine the vast majority of any buying cares less about customisation. I might be wrong.

Going by the "leaked" photos and videos, a lot of people don't seem to like the look of it. Of course that all depends on how legit these leaked videos are.

What's wrong with discussing something other than the product? If you look past any troll posts (not that there are many in this thread) people are trying to understand why it only really seems to be Apple users who are happy to get the next device despite not even seeing it or knowing it's new features.

Nothing wrong with this. In fact I don't know why I replied as I'm sure you have blocked me as I said you were rude to me.

I will also research a product before buying it. £800 over the period of a contract is not a cheap investment. Many do more research over much cheaper things that that, whether it be a laptop, TV or even a HDD for their computer or DAB radio for the kitchen.

A lot of it is down to being locked into the Apple ecosystem. It would be pretty difficult to move to Android/Windows and have to find and buy/download all your favourite apps again. Then there is the issue of all your data in the cloud and using something other than iTunes. This equally applies to Android/Windows, but with these you do have a choice of different handsets to upgrade to.

That's a very good point, it is hard to move from one ecosystem to another if you've got paid apps.

As for data in the cloud, don't Google/MS offer advice and guides on how to easily move over? If so how easy is it really?
