OK Right now i run in the living room an old 9200T, hardly use it to be honest but can;t be bothered taking it all down, as well as a sky HD box on basic package as 99% of the time i only cap 5 main channels, when my contract ends with sky I will be off that is for sure, and I will go Freesat route, and given i'm happy with the 9200T i thought about getting the Foxsat HDR as i'm happy with the UI of the 9200T, so my question in a nutshell is what are people thoughts on the HDR (Good & Bad), I know it's getting on a bit but i might be able to get it cheap (£70) also what is the max HDD that will go in there and is a Pipeline the best job or WD, and is it as simples as the 9200T was?

The current crop of the Freesat Humax Foxsat HDR have got the 1TB HDDs in them but they cost a lot more money to buy then - they cost around £259 from Humax direct
or a bit cheaper from EBay
http://www.humaxdirect.com/product.asp?ProdRef=10103

My advice is wait until you can get the Humax Freesat G2 box the Humax 1000s
http://www.freesat.co.uk/freetime/
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/humax-...74267-pdt.html

They are available for pre-ordering now from High Street Stores and EBay and other Internet Outlets
Have a look around

I do not think you can get a cheap £70 Freesat PVR unless it is a second hand one

I you format a suitable drive ext3 then 2TB drives are known to work. The box auto formats only up to 1TB.

Be aware that media list population is quite slow if you have 1TB plus of recorded content.

OK thanks guys I was able to pick it up for £60 of him which i think is a good deal, I'm looking at 1.5 or 2TB drives do we know if the "Pipeline" drives are best or the WD, if it's WD can you help with model numbers as i only know WD Black drives for PC and i know these are no good for PVR use.

Current WD CE drives are described as WD AV-GP models.

One word of caution I have seen one post that a new AV-GP Sata3 model wasn't recognised (Sata3 is supposed to be back compatible with Sata2)

OK thanks for the reply Graham, that being the case would it make more sense to stick with pipeline drives? i'm looking at models ST2000VM002 or ST1500VM002

Sorry I last changed a drive in my Foxsat-hdr back in 2008. I used a WD-CE 1TB drive. So can't really say which would be best.

I would stick at a 1 TB or less Av drive.

A poster on MyHumax has solved the problem with using sata III on a Foxsat-hdr

This is probably very good advice, because drives have a finite life.(you & me too )

I installed a 2TB drive thinking it would see me out, but it started being unreliable after 14 months. It never got even half full.

I refitted a 1.5 TB but on reflection I might have better used a series of 1TB drives & used the drop-in caddies that GrahamLT usually recommends. No HDD actually in the Foxsat if I remember correctly

I could then move complete series etc that I expected to watch again onto an archive drive.

This also gets round messing with Linux computer reformatting & all that stuff.

You remember correctly but making the drive power down and power up with the box wasn't straightforward, though nowadays you can use USB controlled power strips (designed to shut down PC peripherals).
