US-bought Kindle Fires in the UK

Anyone got one of these to work? I've had one since Xmas, very happy with it, works fine as a reader and a browser, but no access to films, music, subscription services and anything other than operating system apps.

I've tried to re-register it today to connect to amazon.co.uk as the host store, rather than amazon.com, but no joy. Also reset to factory defaults.

Be interested to hear if anyone else has managed anything.

You could try sideloading the Amazon UK App Store app.

Yeah, that didn't seem to work either. Also, should have mentioned that nobody on the Amazon forums seems to have managed yet either.

Unfortunately, I think it's unlikely that it will ever work.

The last resort would probably be a router-based VPN. Although this will cost monthly + the cost of a new router.

Of course, I might be jumping the gun a bit, just realised that the official UK release date is not until 25 October!

Try again closer to the actual product launch in the UK. They'll probably switch on the support services a week or so before they start shipping in the UK.

edit: I see you just had the same idea!
