Rubbish service from PC world (as usual)

Just to confirm previous posts which say that pc world service is the pits. I ordered a hard drive from them on Sunday, received an
email confirming the order and saying it was being dealt with by return. Thursday I received an email saying it was on its way with a tracking number, no trace on post office web site although pc world insist it had been collected. Found out today it's in Bristol and won't be delivered till Monday, promised delivery 3-5 days actual 8 days. Customer service p*ss poor couldn't care less.
My advice, avoid pc world like the plague.

The moral of the story is not to buy stuff from a company you think is rubbish

I had a bad experience when they fobbed me off with a used Eee Pad Transformer (scuffed unsealed box and a scratch on the bezel). Returned it swiftly.

I don't understand why anyone would use PC World to order components online when they have a raft of other retailers to choose from that offer better choice, value and service. Obviously if you need to pick something up from a physical store there and then I could understand, but otherwise the mind boggles. Its not like you even need to be clued up about IT to realise they have a pretty bad reputation.

I am not saying they are not rubbish but it sounds like the courier is at fault. Is it yodel?

PC world = they have the required item in stock and I NEED it today and am willing to deal with window licking sales staff to get the item, if i have the time then there is no way i'd spend money inside their emporium of stupidity

I haven't had any problems with PC World and if I did, they were resolved quite quickly. As an example, I ordered a laptop from their website on a Tuesday and it came by Friday

I bought my last all in one printer (HP) from PC World a few years ago, it was on special offer at £40, about £5 cheaper than anywhere else at the time.
That was a good buy, the printer still works perfectly ... but that is down to HP, not PC World.

Any other time I've been in there to buy anything, I've always left empty handed, usually something to do with the price. It might be a Sunday and you are stuck for a cable ... well PC World have the cable but it costs 3-5 times more than you can buy it the next day elsewhere .... I have learned to wait, but I am getting on ... can't impart this knowledge to the kids though (got to have it now ).

A client of mine ordered a monitor from them a few weeks ago. Yodel lost it and still no replacement or refund despite dozens of calls. Yes the fault is with Yodel losing it. But the customer service from PC World has been extremely poor none the less.

We are lucky enough to have a Novatech store nearby. Much better service and price than PC World (sorry Currys/PC World Megastore) just down the road.

The reason I bought it from them was because it was the cheapest on the net, 2 tb usb 3 hard drive, couldn't find it any cheaper, ordered to be delivered to work as per their 5 day delivery promise and no the problem was with them not the post office. Picked it up from the sorting office this morning. And no I wouldn't deal with them if I didn't have to.

Apologies for the mini essay...

PC World/Currys really are a joke. I was in Currys one day a couple of months ago with my dad as he was looking at laptops. A staff member came over to him and asked if he needed any help. Dad asked the guy if he could check up the Windows Experience index on the laptop he was looking at. The Currys guy remarked "Oh don't rely on that, you should rely on the spec." Then he continued to rant on for a couple of minutes until he said he was going to show us one of the worst computers in the store. I left the store laughing

Another time I went in there looking for a USB SuperDrive for my Macbook Air. I wanted the official Apple one and I asked a staff member. He said they had several external optical drives in stock and they were Apple compatible. He showed me where they were and proceeded to hand me the box of a HP one. I looked at the box and noticed it was Windows only. I then pointed it out to the Currys guy and he said "oh sorry, I thought it was Mac compatible..." Yeah right Again I left the store laughing A few weeks later I went to a local Apple reseller (here in Ireland we have no Apple Stores) and managed to get what I wanted and the guy who served me at the reseller seemed knowledgeable.

You didn't have to deal with them you chose too as they were the cheapest...and poor customer service often comes with the cheapest price...they have to cut costs somewhere.

We do have an Apple store in Ireland!... And I've heard their sales staff come out with some dodgy statements in the past. Even the genius guys have come out with some bs but most tend to be okay.

Are you thinking of an official Apple store or reseller? Where is it?

Its the official deal.... not quite up to the standards of 5th Ave but its still a pretty nice store. The Genius bar is always packed and running behind schedule though.

I think I've heard of that one before. That's up in NI though. There's none in the Republic. We only have resellers

I've not had any bother with PC world.....Anything I've bought has worked and I've never needed to go back to test the CS. I use it as I would any other shop when I need to, I know what I want when I go in and that's what I buy.

To be fair, that HP external hard drive would've indeed been Mac compatible, but just formatted as NTFS by default.
There'd have been no problem plugging it into a Mac, opening up the Disk Utility app, then reformatting it for Mac.

At the end of the day, it'd still be a bog standard hard drive built into a special case, regardless of whether it's HP
or Apple branded. You would've probably saved money buying the HP one, rather than the overpriced Apple one.

The way I see it is, if you're a novice and don't know too much about PCs/laptops, I would urge you to stay away from PC World. As we've possibly all experienced, the sales people just want to sell you anything since they're on commission.

If you know what you're looking for, then it shouldn't be a problem.
