I am not saying I want Syed to die, but out of the two of them I do prefer that Syed stays and we see him raise his daughter. But since he is leaving the reason I say it is preferable he dies is because otherwise he will just become another Shabnam who never returns for any occasion or family disaster, whose family never go to visit her, who seems to have forgotten she has a family and whose family seem to have forgotten her. This is not realistic in their culture, unless the child has been banished from the family which Shabnam has not, but whether that happens with Syed because he commits fraud or steals from his family again will have to be seen. But another Masood child who has disappeared into the sunset, I don't buy that.

I'd say yes, but I can't be bothered with another depressing Masood storyline. They work best as a comedy family and I've missed their funny-ness. The Yusef stuff last christmas made them a bit irritating.

I think it would have been really powerful if he died when the reveal came out.

Yes, they were dreadful last year but it would be more realistic if EE never intended for Syed to come back.

I think Syed may die but it would bring up some emotional scenes for Christian, Masood, Zainab and Tamwar..

A little harsh considering reality and this show aren't best friends.

It would be good, I like a bit of angst, maybe a bit too much angst for the Masoods in such a short space of time, something they absolutely cannot recover from.

Of course I said that about Zainab and Yusef and look where we are now.

Lots of characters leave EE, most have families left there. They can't kill them all.

Pretty much every character on the show has family members who are long gone and never seem to show up for any notable occasions. How often do Grant or Sam drop in to give Phil a birthday card? How many times did we see Wicksy fly over to see his mother, Pat? Michelle didn't even come over for her mother's, father's or brother's funeral! You can't just start killing off every cast member who leaves or is axed to explain away their future absences.

Syed won't die and I don't know why people think he might, clearly TPTB want Christian and Syed to get their happy ending otherwise they would have let Marc Elliot go and kept hold of John Partridge. It wasn't John's decision to leave initially but like the producers, he clearly felt the characters needed to leave together.

As for Syed never returning, why don't know that he'll never return for guest appearances like Carly has or that he won't return properly in 10 years, certainly if Masood and Zainab ever decide to move on and Syed became the focal point of the family - ie more screentime. Marc wouldn't come back to the poor screentime he was getting anyway.

Shabnam was a less memorable character than Syed, even to some of the producers.

I find it a bit insulting. Do you think that in 'other cultures' people love their family members any less? And once they've left they're never mentioned again? It's fiction, all soaps do it. When a character has left he/she is rarely mentioned. It's not a cultural thing but a soap thing.

I hope Syed doesn't die. He should breakup with Christian because he's realised that he's still young and there is a big world out there that he can explore. He needs to learn to be his own person, make his owns choices instead of being under his mother or boyfriend's thumb. His other priority should be his daughter of course.

Quoted for truth. It's unrealistic to kill off everyone who wants to leave the cast permanently. Also I'd like to not see any more sadness for the Masoods - thry've been through enough.

I am just going by what I observe and what seems to be par for the course in EE, that family members leave and are forgotten and it seems to be the norm. I am just giving an opinion, I am not having this culture vs soap argument today.

We all know you what you think of westeners. But this is a soap, characters leave and never see their family again, Muslims not excepted.

I can't know anything about you because you've never heard of me? Anyway, you've made it clear in the past than you think 'westeners' are disrespectful towards their families compared to the nice, honourable Muslims. I'm just pointing out that this is a soap. It's not realistic and your every little whim can't be pandered to.

No, I mean your username is not familiar to me. Sorry but my opinions are not based on what I think but what I observe. I never said anyone is perfect, my sister was married to a rat and he called himself a Muslim. And opinions can change, just because I say something in the past does not mean I am stuck with it for life, isn't it. I did not used to like Ian one bit, but I do now.

I think Syed should get run over by Dot's taxi when she returns, causing Lola to see it and get bi polar, Dot to challenge her faith, and Christian to shout HES DEAD....HES DEAD...and sob hysterically

It's been said that Syed and Christian will "leave at the same time". So I think they'll either get married and leave together, breakup and leave separately, or both will die.

I think they'll leave together though otherwise there'd be no point in Christian leaving as well. It would have been far more interesting for Syed to die and then see the fallout on screen with Christian and the Masoods and how they deal with it, rather than Christian leaving straightaway. So that's why I think they'll leave together as a couple, perhaps moving away to be nearer to Yasmin. Or both die - they've often been referred to as Romeo and Romeo so that would certainly be appropriate if they did!

No, like others have mentioned this happens a lot of times on soaps (family members leave, then hardly ever mentioned)
I dont want Syed to die, be very sad. I want Syed and Christian to marry then leave as a happy couple to start a new life away from Walford.

Agreed. This idyllic Muslim representation catsmeow seems to expect, or rather demand from the show is never going to happen.

What's rather disgusting is this preference that Syed should die rather than offend his culture by not visiting his parents. What kind of twisted logic is that?

I just spoke to my mate at elstree and he said Christian and Syed will get married, and will head off to Jamica for their honeymoon. However, unknown to them,Kat, Alfie, Derek, Tyler, Joey, and a few others will also be on the flight and it crashes. Syed and Chritian get saved by dolphins and get a Julia's theme, but the rest will perish

I love this exit SL. Roxy/Jack/Whitney are also on the plane and they die.

I think Whitney can be saved - she just needs to ditch Tyler!

She doesn't just need to ditch Tyler. They have a LOT of work to do in order to make her likeable again.

I believed that until the second sentence started.
