I didn't watch Sharon's previous stints but for those who did: has Sharon been ruined? I'm asking this because I don't like her and I'm wondering why she used to be so good.

I don't think she's been ruined but another few weeks of being tacked on to the Branning clan should do it.

No. Crap writing is the problem. She's certainly not ruined, I don't see it. Especially when I look at other ruined characters - Kat, Ronnie, Shirley, Jack.

I agree with all of those except Shirley. Why do you think Shirley has been ruined?

Last night i thought brought shirley back to the type of character she was in her first few years. She looked very like yvonne too ( well you know what i mean)

Dont think jack has been ruined, he wasnt much of a character anyway

I no longer see the same fighting spirit that she had when she first arrived. She slowly became Phil's doormat.

I'm hoping they rectify this upon her return, it's certainly not too late for her.

I think her return role as the anxious, worried-mother is just one of her many, many layers. Since she has been back we have also seen her fierce and flirtatious side, just not as much as her anxiousness. So it's not as if she is at the point of no-return like Kat. I am actually quite enjoying her at the moment, although yes, I am looking forward to a bit more of that classic fiestiness coming back.

Couldn't have put it any better than that.

ROFL ...... she's only been back two minutes!!!!!

It was always going to be one hell of a disappointment given the frenetic build-up on here.

Perhaps time had made folk forget she was just a lardy lass in a 90s wig.

Not ruined. She's essentially the same character.

The problem is she hasn't been given anything interesting to do, like 50% of the cast.

Yeah, I'd agree with this.

What has the potential to ruin her is that dark secret.... if it turns out she was a prostitute, that would ruin her.

But as it stands, no.

her return was never going to be like the 2001, one, that was the show greatest return ever. It will never be topped.

It's far too soon to say. We don't know her whole story.

Exactly. A bit more time needs to pass before judging her.

The problem when an actor leaves and returns a few years later is that there is usually a huge change in production behind set so you are getting writers who have never written for that character previously so it doesn't quite click.

Give it some time and I'm sure everything will fall back into place.

IMO there was far too much hype before her return. Fair enough the fans were excited, but the expectation that she would come back as a strong independant business woman, the perfect mother and pretty much the perfect woman was far from the reality of her return. Instead of waiting to see what the intervening years had done to her they filled in the blanks and sold her as someone beyond reproach.
The result is that new fans are disappointed and she is not what they expected.
Let's see what happens.

I'm actually not disapointed. I love Sharon and she's what is keeping me watching. She's not perfect, not by a long shot but she is interesting. She has some much going on and I find that exciting.

She doesn't have to yell at the top of her voice, she doesn't have to drink six bottles of vodka every episode.

Her relationships with Ian, Phil and Denny are fascinating, I cannot wait to see how it unravels.

Most likely.

I suppose it's a good thing they're kind of bedding her in properly. Getting her familiar with all the new character's she didn't know before giving her anything proper to do.

Although, the lack of Pat, Peggy, Dot and Pauline this time around is definitely leaving something missing with her.
Sharon definitely flourished when there was a huge drama bubbling and she had her family circle.

It's taking a lot of getting used to her being a loner character with virtually no one except Dennis.

I actually find it interesting watching her struggling to cope as a loner.

And yes, I like the fact that she hasn't taken over every single storyline since her arrival (coughDEREKcough)

Its too soon to tell. I like her relationships with Ian and Phil but I wish they would make up their minds about Denny, one minute she's happy to leave him with Max then the next, she's smothering him.

Also not liking her pairing with Jack at all.

One of the flaws of Kat and Alfie's return was that they were hurled straight to the head of the show. They came in with a huge storyline and hogged the show from the off.

I don't mind the Sharon/Jack thing as a potential story. I just wish there was more to Jack than the 2D idiot he is. lol

Would've been better with a new casting.

If only people would vald..... you have been pretty critical of the character, rather than seeing what happens.

I have been pretty silent about her return precisely because I am waiting to see what happens....

As for the hype and expectations - I dont see how " new fans" can have expectations for a character they never saw; so how can those expectations then be dashed. Certainly, posters on here who are new fans have taken a very intense dislike to Sharon and that cannot be blamed on over-hype or failed expectations.

I DO understand that sometimes, when something is very hyped, people have a negative reaction to it: I understand that feeling..... but in most of the negative comments directed towards Sharon that has NOT been the issue being brought up; were it, I would, and I think many other posters, would not have a problem with it.

Sharons great, she's just suffering from the god awful writers,

Her first week was great and I liked how they under played her to start with but now there just taking the much, she's not a rude old slapper who needs to be shoe horned into every storyline / jacks bed

The ott mom acts wearing thin

In short Sharon's a legend , please pull this round or the writers have finally killed the show I think, it's not like she's just another actress they can axe, Sharon's a corner stone of the show. Her dynamic is one of the reasons eastenders is eastenders,

Drop the tart with a heart bit or at least the desperation angle, send Denny to the same place bobby and Oscar go to for months on end, get her a decent stand alone storyline somthing like a family issue or even the vic . Have her become the matriarch, I think teaming her up with a new family would be a good idea. wicked stepmom turned best mates with the blokes kids, then have her want to adopt like she was adopted, decent storylines not just random sleeping around and over dramatic under constructive sensationalism
